Revealed: Where Covid clusters are emerging in each area of Dublin

2020.09.22 15:12 scuzzbat1 Revealed: Where Covid clusters are emerging in each area of Dublin

Private houses in Dublin North West were the location for the largest number of Covid-19 clusters in the capital in the past month. A breakdown of clusters - or outbreaks - in the city according to setting has been released to the Irish Independent by the HSE.
It shows there were 123 clusters recorded in the capital between August 19 and September 14.
A total of 84 of these were in private homes, with the largest number, 21, in houses located in Dublin North West.
In Dublin South, the only clusters that were recorded over the one-month period - five in total - were all in private homes.
A cluster is defined as two or more people being infected with the disease in one location. Apart from private homes, the data reveals that residential institutions and workplaces recorded the second highest figures for outbreaks in the city. Each had eight clusters across the month.
Three residential institutions in Dublin South City had outbreaks, and two were recorded in both Dublin North West and Dublin North Central. One occurred in Dublin North.
Workplace settings in Dublin South-West and Dublin West had four outbreaks (two in each location) and single outbreaks were also reported in workplaces in Dublin South East, Dublin North West, Dublin North Central and Dublin North.
Elsewhere, there was one outbreak located in a retail outlet in Dublin South-East and three outbreaks were located in restaurants or cafés, one in Dublin South City, another in Dublin West and one in Dublin North West.
Three outbreaks happened in childcare facilities, one in Dublin South-West, one in Dublin North-West and one in Dublin North.
The publication of the figures relating to outbreak settings comes after the HSE published up-to-date electoral level data on the latest cases in Dublin.
The release of the data on Saturday, according to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, gives the public more detailed information about the virus and how it us affecting their communities.
Infectious diseases expert Dr Jack Lambert welcomed the data but called for more "granular" detail, including daily updates on the various settings the outbreaks have occurred in.
"Knowing where these cases have occurred, meat plants, direct provision, wherever, and if they are in the locality, will help people understand the measures that are being taken and adapt their behaviour accordingly," he said.
David Higgins, an economist with Carraighill data analysts who has been following the statistical trends in the outbreaks since the start of the pandemic, said providing the public with as much information as possible is essential.
"You can never have enough detail when it comes to something like this," he said.
"That granular detail is what is needed and there are countries around the world that have done incredibly well informing citizens.
"The data is all there, it just needs to be shared."

2020.09.21 13:05 bigfathampster Dublin GAMSAT (part 2)

Hi guys,
I assume you all got that GAMSAT Reminder email this morning. What will we do? This is technically against regulations at the minute in relation to COVID, and also. people from around the country are going to be travelling to Dublin in order to sit this test. I dont know what more we can do as it seems ACER is practically ignoring all emails from concerned individuals, and the hotel is not cancelling the bookings from ACER, or any other company that has booked their meeting rooms. We are meant to limit social interactions with people, and I can't see how all of us doing this test in a conference room (even if we are stagered with dates) will prevent the spread of the virus. I know this is a worrying time, and we are so close to the testing dates, but it is not fair for people to have to travel to Dublin in order to sit this test during Level 3. I find it quite scandalous that the entrace exam into medical school in Ireland will be breaching the restrictions in place to prevent the spread of a virus. I was considering contacting Dr. Ciara Kelly (she sat the GAMSAT) on Twitter, or getting the media involved. This can all be solved by allowing to sit the test via remote proctoring, and this easy solution will prevent any worry in relation to the virus transmition.

So, I think it would be helpful if we all e-mailed ACER, and brought this to the attention of the media. What do you all think?

Aine Caoimhe McCracken was born to an Irish politician named Ciaran McCracken, who met the goddess of fame after a hotly contested and widely publicized Dail by-election in 2003. She was raised in the town of Cavan, with frequent trips into Dublin to see her father, who did his best to balance his responsibilities as a legislator with his responsibility to his daughter. Aine grew into a driven, but emotionally distant girl, demanding as much of herself as she did everyone else around her. When she was thirteen, she was claimed by her mother and sent to the Wolf House, and from there she joined the Legion, where she has been for the past three years.

Aine sat on the porch of the Second Cohort barracks, sharpening her falcata and humming softly to herself as she worked. Her eyes were focused on her sword, but she was listening to what was going on around her, so if anyone approached her, she’d likely hear them.

2020.09.19 21:39 thruitallaway34 17 Years, Still Missing Without A Trace

Like so many others, Shane's disappearance has broken his mother's heart. Last seen in 2003 at his Pleasanton Ca, apartment he shared with a roommate, Shane M Anest's dissapeaance remains unsolved. At first glance, it seems like a simple case of a young man deliberately trying to avoid legal troubles. But the longer time has gone by, the less likely that seems to be the case.
In short, Shane's roomie, whose name ive not been able to come up with, reported he was the last to see Shane, around 1am on the morning of Sept 29, 2003. Coincidentally, Shane had a court date that morning in regards to previous dui charge from the a month earlier in August. Shane may have had other legal issues as well, including a prior narcotics charge in 1999, but within the source material i couldnt gain clarity on if he was still fighting that case
Its easy to take this infromation and assume he took off to start another life, at first glance, but some of the evidence may point to something more mysterious having happening.
After being reported missing October 1st, reaponding officers interviewed both friends and family, all of whom claimed Shane gave no hint he was worried about court or was looking to run off.
In the days that followed, what seemes to be the only signifigant find was Shane's car, parked across the street in the parking lot of the business complex that once housed PeopleSoft. In the years that have followed, his bank accounts all remained untouched, an often ominous sign in the world of the disappeared. It seems that Shane fell off the face of the Earth.
My renewed interest in this dissappearance is inpart because I am from Pleasanton and its such a quiet, peacful suburbia with little violent crime, and few missing cases, so i am particularly familiar with the area. On a side note, i am also very close in age with Shane, though i didnt not know him personally, i often wonder if we went to school together or crossed paths at some point.
The Archstone Apartments where Shane lived is less than a half mile from the East Pleasanton/Dublin Bart Station, the Bay Area Rapid Transit Train that will take you to 2 international airports and 2 major cities. Its also with in a half mile of the freeway. However we know from the lack of activity on his accounts he didnt fly any where. We also know he didnt drive anywhere due to his car being found.
The biggest obstacle i have come across is lack of information. While there were a handful of articles from the last 17 years, they only referenced his mom and roommate as sources of information, although articles did mention that his mom claimed he had a girlfriend. No mention of his girlfriend was found in an official capacity, nor any information from friends. The lack of information is astounding. I couldnt even find forum gossip about this case.
It is of course completely feasable that Shane took a late train to the city to score a little something before court, if he thought he was going to jail for any length of time, and perhaps met with foul play. He could have committed suicide and his body still not been found. In truth any thing could have happened to shane. Anything.
Shane would be 39 now. He is Caucasian with a tattoo of a deck of cards on his chest as well as the letter s on his shoulder.
If you have any information please contact the Pleasanton Ca police department. 925-931-5134. Shane, if youre out there reading this. Call your mom.

2020.09.18 20:41 DangerNoodle 20 year old lifelong console player looking to build my first pc but I have a very limited knowledge

*What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I want to be able to play a variety of games from FPS games like Rainbow Six Siege and Call of Duty, larger open world games too like The Witcher 3, and I'd also like to play simple things like Kerbal Space Program. But I want to be able to run all of them well.
*What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
I'd say about €1200 or call it $1500 for you Americans. There is a bit of wiggle room to this if you can justify it.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Probably in the next 2 months, I'm not looking to rush into this.
*What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
I'd need the PC, OS, a monitor(I want games to look very good but I don't have the money for 4k so probably something quad HD with like 240hz for FPS games), a mouse, I have an old keyboard already so I don't need one urgently but if you could suggest one I'd appreciate it. (Unless you made it fit within the budget)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
I'm in Dublin, Ireland
*If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I have an old keyboard that isn't special but it will do the job fine for the time being. The branding in it says "CM Storm by Cool Master:Devastator"
I don't know what it means to overclock
*Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Honestly wouldn't say no to an SSD for the space
*What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
I'll have to use a powerline adaptor that I already have
*Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Not really, I'm more concerned with functionality rather than the aesthetics but if you can find space in the budget for a window and RGB lights inside then go for it. Generally a darker colour like a grey or black would be preferred but its not a huge deal if its not.
*Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Yeah I'll need Windows 10
Thanks guys. I'll answer any questions anyone has

After six months of intermittent or in some cases near-continuous lockdowns, many have reached their limit and uprisings are finally emerging around the world. The last week of August 2020 saw gatherings of tens of thousands of individuals in Berlin,1 London2 and Dublin,3 protesting stay-at-home orders, business closures, mask and vaccine mandates and Bill Gates’ dictatorial grip on public health matters.
In the U.S., a protest took place August 30, 2020, in Boston, Massachusetts, against a new student flu vaccination mandate,4 and in Virginia, protesters gathered September 2 in opposition of unconstitutional COVID-19 mandates.5
These are just a few of the many demonstrations that have taken place in recent weeks around the world, as people are starting to realize their human rights are being stripped away over a virus with a lethality on par with that of seasonal influenza and other pandemic viruses, none of which was responded to with a global shutdown of economies and forced quarantining of healthy individuals.

COVID-19 — A Massive Brainwashing Scheme?

In recent weeks and months, more and more experts have come out sharing what they know about the roles of Big Tech, Big Pharma and global health organizations such as the World Health Organization in the creation of a new technocratic world order.
If you missed my interview with financial analyst Patrick Wood, in which he details the technocratic take-over plan, which has been in play for decades, be sure to review it now. Other articles shedding light on what’s happening behind the scenes include “Harvard Professor Exposes Google and Facebook,” featuring a documentary with professor Shoshana Zuboff, and “Plandemic Part 2.”
When you start to put all the puzzle pieces together, it seems clear this pandemic is being used as a cover story for both a global wealth redistribution scheme, and for the implementation of a technocratic system of totalitarian rule by unelected leaders.
The WHO seems to be part and parcel of this global network. While the U.S. has severed ties with the organization, Big Tech is still promoting the WHO as a final arbiter of which views are acceptable and which are not — medical expertise and scientific achievements be damned.
As reported by Reclaim the Net,6 the WHO eavesdrops on everything you do online, from reviewing your social media interactions to analyzing your emotions. To counteract “spread of misleading information” about the pandemic — which was a key area of focus during Event 201 — the WHO has partnered with an analytics company that uses machine learning analysis to scan more than 1.6 million social media posts per week.
The aim of this “social listening approach”— a nicer term than good old-fashioned spying — is to counteract anything that doesn’t align with the WHO’s current narrative on illnesses, treatments, interventions and causes of disease.
Aiding them in this dystopian censoring process is the United Nations, which has launched an army of 10,000 digital volunteers who troll the internet for “false” information and opposing views.
On top of that, most social media platforms have their own highly biased "fact-checkers" who censor for all they’re worth. Back in April 2020, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, wife of Google product director Dennis Troper, announced they would ban and remove any video from the platform that contradicts the WHO.7
Countless examples of wanton censorship of perfectly valid medical and scientific information across all social media platforms and Google can be found at this point.

Just How Deadly Is COVID-19?

According to groundbreaking data8 recently released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 6% of the total COVID-19-related deaths in the U.S. had COVID-19 listed as the sole cause of death on the death certificate.
Six percent of 169,044 (the total death toll as of September 2) is 10,143. “For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death,” the CDC states. As reported by Rochester First,9 the top underlying medical conditions included influenza, pneumonia, respiratory failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, dementia, heart problems and renal failure.
However, the list also includes 5,424 intentional and unintentional injury and poisoning deaths, so basically, accidents and suicides in which the individual just happened to test positive (or was suspected of being positive for SARS-CoV-2) are also included in the grand total.
(Please note, these data were accurate as of this writing. The CDC does not notate when data is altered as new death certificates come in, so the numbers may therefore be different from what is reported here, depending on when you’re looking at it. For the most up-to-date figures, see the CDC’s website.10)
The fact that only 6% of COVID-19-related deaths are directly attributable to SARS-CoV-2 is bad news when you’re trying to keep a doomsday narrative going. In what appears to be a blatant attempt to minimize exposure of these data, social media platforms have censored many trying to share it.11
As noted by independent news commentator Tim Pool in the video below, fact-checkers are digging into nitpicky semantics in their effort to censor the CDC data, and in so doing, they’re really stretching the “false” claim ultrathin.
Similar data have emerged from Palm Beach County, Florida, where an investigation by CBS 1212 I-Team revealed only 86 of the reported 658 COVID-19 deaths had “COVID-19 pneumonia” listed as the sole cause of death.
All others had multiple comorbidities, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and dementia. As noted by CBS 12, “Most Palm Beach County COVID deaths cannot be attributed to COVID alone.”
While Dr. Terry Adirim, senior associate dean at the Florida Atlantic University College of Medicine, told the I-Team that “it makes sense to count them [people with comorbid conditions] toward COVID deaths because the virus may have made an otherwise nonfatal illness like a heart condition deadly,” the converse argument can also be made.
Had it not been for them having one or more serious comorbidities, the risk of the virus to these individuals would have been minuscule, and if they got sick at all, they’d probably have survived. So, ultimately, should the virus bear the brunt of the blame?

Infection Fatality Rate on Par With the Flu

Keeping the “killer virus” narrative going much longer is probably going to become even more difficult in light of a September 2, 2020 article13 in Annals of Internal Medicine, which points out that:
“Because many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are asymptomatic, generalizable data on the true number of persons infected are lacking, and that when calculating mortality rates from confirmed cases, you end up overestimating the infection fatality ratio (IFR).”
The paper reads, in part:14
“To calculate a true infection fatality ratio, population prevalence data are needed from large geographic areas where reliable death data also exist … We combined prevalence estimates from a statewide random sample with Indiana vital statistics data of confirmed COVID-19 deaths.
In brief, our stratified random sample consisted of state residents aged 12 years and older. Known decedents and incarcerated persons were excluded. Because nursing homes were limiting residents' ability to leave and re-enter the facilities, their participation was unlikely.
Participants were tested from 25 April to 29 April 2020 for active viral infection and SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, which would indicate prior infection … We calculated the IFR by age, race, sex, and ethnicity on the basis of the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths as of 29 April 2020, divided by the number of infections.
Although nursing home residents were not tested, they represented 54.9% of Indiana's deaths. Thus, we excluded nursing home residents from all calculations (that is, deaths and infections).
To account for all infections, we added the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 during the testing period and noninstitutionalized COVID-19 deaths into the denominator …
Our random-sample study estimated 187 802 cumulative infections, to which 180 hospitalizations were added. The average age among all COVID-19 decedents was 76.9 years.
The overall noninstitutionalized infection fatality ratio was 0.26% … Persons younger than 40 years had an infection fatality ratio of 0.01%; those aged 60 or older had an infection fatality ratio of 1.71%. Whites had an infection fatality ratio of 0.18%; non-Whites had an infection fatality ratio of 0.59%.”

2020.09.16 14:20 FinitoLight Gamsat September 2020 Dublin sitting: Concerns among rising case numbers.

Hey guys as the title says, is anyone else concerned that the test might be pushed back/changed for the Dublin venue?
Cases are rising in Dublin and there is talk of stage three restrictions being implemented (which would ban indoor gatherings of any kind).
What do you think would happen in that situation? Remote proctoring like in March? If that is to be the case and the test date gets pushed back again, then that is seriously inconvenient considering that people have jobs or will be studying elsewhere other than Dublin and have already had to plan accordingly.
I'd love to hear some thoughts on the matter.

2020.09.15 19:07 girlfromthenorth12 Asexuality or Fear of Intimacy?

Hi All,
I'm going through a bit a soul searching after a rough couple months. I am getting frustrated that at 28, I sometimes feel as lost as I did as a teenager.
One of the things I am working out right now is if I am asexual or if my fear of intimacy is keeping me from experiencing sexual attraction. I have had sex several times, most of the times I was quite drunk to be honest and only had sex with the same person twice once. I have never really enjoyed it, felt pleasure or orgasmed from having sex.. However, I enjoy masturbation and the psychical pleasures of it. Reading more about asexuality it seems to fit me. However, I do feel like I am physically attracted to men in a different way than females (I'm female). For example, as a teenager me and my sister would watch TV shows and gossip about cute boys/men. The main character of the show White Collar, Neal, make me swoon, oh man. But this attraction doesn't make me want to have sex with them. I find penises kinda gross. And similar to that subject, I have never enjoyed porn or sex scenes in movies..
However, I also have a fear of intimacy that stems from I believe various circumstances in my childhood/teenage years. I was always shy and awkward in high school, and never built strong friendships, and as a result I had very little self confidence, which lead my teenager brain to think it was because I was ugly, which then led to eating disorder and depression. I consider my relationship with food fairly healthy now, and body image as ok it can be in our society that focuses so much on beauty. I realized now that those were merely reactions to the underlying problem. Moving away to university things improved, and I found what I consider good friends, although I never shared these personal doubts with them. I also was in a big party culture, so I rarely was in social situations without alcohol, and do think I used it as a way to calm my social anxiety. I now moved around a lot and relocated countries frequently so it was easy to avoid deep relationships. I tried dating with tinder while living in Dublin, but after one date I would not want to go farther. I'm most of the time uncomfortable in a social situation with just one other person and get super anxious, while if its a bigger group I don't feel as much pressure to interact. Although small talk is fine. This summer, I have started to really doubt some of the friendships I have in my life now, due to some ethical/political differences we have. But I think I may also just be running away again.
Long story short, is I don't know how to be emotionally intimate with people, even with my sisters, I haven't shared this with them, although they are the people I turn to when I'm upset. I do think romantic relationships look lovely and would love to be able to love.. I know people love me, I just struggle to feel it back. This anxiety also has been affecting my career, as I lack confidence to push myself into what I am passionate about and network the way I should. I really want to get better, and at this point can't afford therapy. Reading about asexuality has made me feel a bit better as I can identify with a lot of it, but I'm not 100% sure that I am. I hadn't really even realized it could be a thing until recently. I also thought that my lack of interest in sex was because of my anxiety and that it would come once I addressed it.

Any sign of the PAX Wardrobe frame (502.145.60) coming back into stock in Ireland (Dublin)? Seems to be out in lots of stores across Europe so I assume a supply chain issue. The estimated dates just push out a week or two every week or so.

2020.09.14 19:25 KilBunny CK3: How do I defend myself against the crusades?

Hi, so I started as Dublin in the 1066 start date and was able to unite Ireland, Scotland and Wales under my rule. Then I decided to make my own branch of Christianity for fun but fast forward a few years later and the Pope has called for a crusade against me.
I win most battles but it is getting really difficult as my levies dwindle. I don't mind turning the clock back a bit but is there a way to redirect the crusades away from me? Would making strong alliances work?

2020.09.14 01:50 Armchair_Detectives Philip Cairns disappeared while walking to school 34 years ago, recently his family are once again appealing for information that will lead to the solving of one of Irelands most well known mysteries

Philip Cairns disappeared in 1986 while walking back to school in South Dublin, his case remains one of the most high profile mysteries and criminal cases in Ireland. The case has often been spoken of as being similar to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and Ben Needham. His family are once again seeking information from the Irish public that may finally resolve this case for them.
Philip was just 13 in 1986, 1 of 6 children in his family, on October 23rd he had walked home as he often did from his school in Rathfarnham in Dublin for lunch around 12:45pm to his home on nearby Ballyroan Road. He left his home to return to Colaiste Eanna Secondary School around 1:30pm, this was the last time he was seen.
The Irish Police or 'Gardaí' were notified quickly about the missing boy and a vast search began in the surrounding area. Several hundred members of the force searched rivers, lakes and mountains around Dublin without success and local searches along the route Philip had been known to walk to school proved fruitless.
The day after his disappearance the Gardaí were informed that a rumour had been going around the school that Philip was lured into a van by a bad man with sweets but no evidence of this could be found. The authorities later interviewed many of the school children during the Mid-Term break that began the following week.
Unusual for most high profile Irish Police investigations the Gardaí made use of many psychics and clairvoyants. Common in the United States but almost unheard of in Ireland before this case, Philip's photo was circulated by milk companies. None of this lead to any useful leads in the case.
The School Bag
The most important discovery in the investigation came just six days into the investigation when two school girls passing an alleyway near Philips house found his school bag lying there.
The laneway had already been searched repeatedly by Gardaí and local volunteers so the authorities believed it had been placed there by Philip's abductor likely just before it was discovered after the searches had been completed. This for the first time proved a likelihood that foul play was involved in his disappearance.
Forensic studies were carried out on the bag at the time but found nothing of use to the investigation. Philip's belongings were found inside including his pens, pencils, school books and notebooks. Unusually Philip's geography book and both of his religion books were missing from the bag, the significance of this if any has never been determined.
The bag was sealed once the forensic investigation was completed and has remained locked in a Garda safe ever since.
Later Developments
Gardaí recieved hundreds of reports of sightings of Philip from around the world including the U.S., UK and Australia. All of these were investigated and proved not to be the missing boy.
Philip's Parents regularly appeared in the years since on Irish National Television appealing for information in the case.
The Gardaí have carried out many searches of property across Ireland in the years since, often without informing the media until the searches are already finished and rarely speaking of what if anything was found in these searches.
A special mass was held on the 20th anniversary of Philip's disappearance. The following year in 2007 a reconstruction was carried out of the disappearance for the Irish Crimecall television show, Crimestoppers also announced they were offering €10,000 for information in the case. The Gardaí referred to the response at the time as 'tremendous'.
Many theories have been advanced by the media over the years, most have been discounted by investigating authorities as being without merit or evidence.
Accidental Death
Early in the investigation many believed that Philip had been knocked down by a vehicle while walking back to school and the driver had chosen not to come forward and removed Philip from the area.
Supporting this has been the fact no similar crimes or disappearances occurred at the time and the placement of Philip's school bag near his home may have been done out of guilt to return it to the family.
The Gardaí have never supported the accident theory.
Foul Play has always been the likely scenario supported by authorities, whether the intention had been to kill Philip or not the Gardaí believe he is dead.
Over the years since his disappearance many have come forward claiming relatives or people known to them may have been responsible. These included a local woman who told Gardaí that her partner at the time, alleged to be a Paedophile had abducted and killed Philip. No evidence was found to support these claims and many have been publicly declared false allegations.
In 2009 an elderly woman living in Dublin told the Gardaí that her boyfriend at the time Philip disappeared had killed him and buried him at two locations in South Dublin. These locations, a wooded area near a golf course next to the M50 motorway and another area 50 metres away from it were searched meticulously with the help of geo physicists and specialised ground penetrating scanners that were brought in after all vegetation was cleared away, nothing was found.
The unnamed man the woman identified as being responsible is now a pensioner living in Rathfarnham and Gardaí have said no charges can be brought against him without evidence.
Eamonn Cooke
Known as 'Captain Eamonn', Eamoon Cooke is a former Pirate Radio host, career criminal and convicted Paedophile. He assumed control of the decade-old Pirate radio station 'Radio Dublin' in 1977 having previously worked there as an engineer.
He continued to run the station until 2003 despite multiple raids by the authorities. He possesses multiple criminal convictions including a rumoured conviction as a teenager for bombing a monument in Glasnevin Cemetery.
In 1957 he pleaded guilty to having opened fire with a handgun at responding Gardaí during the robbery of a Petrol Station near Bray. In 1978 he was convicted for breaches of the wire telegraphy act and fined £35.
In 1986 Cooke was convicted of arson and assault in relation to a fire bombing he and four others perpetrated in 1984. For this he recieved a 4 year suspended sentence.
In 2001 he was sentenced to 6 months for dangerous driving in relation to a car chase he became involved in while driving in the Dublin mountains. He also recieved a 21 day sentence for contempt of court.
In 2003 he was brought to trial for the first time in relation to his paedophile activities when he was charged with rape and sexual assault of 4 under age girls. He was convicted but this was quashed in 2006 on a technicality and he was released.
In 2007 Cooke was brought to trial again on sexual crimes dating back to the 1970's, several of the previous girls who he had reportedly assaulted stood witness in the court. Gardaí testified to several cases of witness intimidation and arson carried out by Cooke against his accusers and he was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Eamonn Cooke was considered a suspect in the disappearance of Philip Cairns when a woman who had known him at the time came forward in 2016. This woman alleged that Cooke had murdered Philip at the Radio Dublin studio on the day of his disappearance having lured the boy there. The Gardaí considered the information credible and interviewed Cooke who was at the time stating in a hospice due to declining health.
Gardaí later stated that Cooke had confirmed many of the details that the woman had alleged but stopped short of admitting the crime or telling them where Philips remains were. He was suffering with dementia at the time and many dont believe his statements were credible.
Eamonn Cooke died in June 2016 and has never been publicly named as the perpetrator in the disappearance of Philip Cairns while he does remain a suspect. He was considered unlikely to have been involved when his DNA didnt match DNA taken from the school bag.
Other Theories
Various other theories have been put forward by the Media, Authors and Crime Journalists. These range from Satanists, Paedophile Rings, Global Human Traffickers and connections to other unsolved Irish deaths and disappearances.
Philip's father died in 2014 and in recent years Philip's older sisters have become the family spokespeople in the case. On September 13th 2020 his Sister issued a fresh appeal for information and spoke of distressing phone calls the family continue to receive in the case. It was also announced that a new documentary had been made by the Irish Broadcaster RTE to reexamine the Garda investigation and the evidence in the case.
The case at the time shook Irish culture to its core, the disappearance which occurred in a busy area in broad daylight prompted a shift in the way Irish people went about their daily lives and lead to widespread fear at the time of further abductions though this didnt happen.
The Gardaí still want to identify two people seen in the laneway just prior to Philip's School bag being recovered.
What is your opinion of this case? Do you believe the perpetrator will ever be caught or that theories around the case are close to the truth?

2020.09.13 20:32 DylanTheSpud Young Irish lad building his first PC, hoping to be ready for RTX3070

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

Content creating on Twitch and YouTube, creating a game with Unity and Blender, and will be taking advantage of the RTX3070 for games in my free time on a [email protected] display. Most power-hungry games I expect to play are Cyberpunk 2077 and Halo Infinite.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

€1000, that's without the price of the RTX3070

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

Somewhere around Christmas once sales pop up. I'm aware that AMD will be showcasing their Zen and RX stuff before then, so anything suggested will be outdated quickly, but I'm simply preparing ahead of time as this is my first build and I want the most bang for my buck.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)

Tower with USB ports that work with 5-ish year old devices (And big enough to fit RTX3070), keyboard, mouse, Ryzen 5 CPU or higher

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

Dublin, Ireland

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

I won't be overclocking right away, but I do plan to overclock the CPU at some point.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

NVME or standard SSD. Going for 1TB or higher.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

Black case. Not a fan of RGB to be honest.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

Windows 10 Home

Extra info or particulars:

Not a fan of RGB. Hope to upgrade the build every few years.

2020.09.12 23:59 kelmcdonald Question about elective inheritance

So I was playing at the earliest start date in Ireland. My guy was a beast and I successfully conquered all of Ireland and a good chunk of England and Wales. He lives a long time. Thanks to Insular Christiany I could quickly married myself and all my kids to folks with intelligent or genius trait. And also more of my grandkids to the same. I keep elective succession for my main title. Which let me go straight to playing as my great grandson (through my second oldest daughter that married matrilineally) who's a genius. But Dublin still went to the oldest son of my oldest son (my oldest son had died during my many wars). Is there a way to avoid this in the future? Like can I make Dublin be tied to Kinghood? I don't want to have to take Dublin from a vassal every time if I need to jump over some shit heirs with an election again.

2020.09.12 14:39 nikolasmaduro How common is marrying/dating someone from a different socioeconomic class in Ireland?

Would you say it's rare? I know a friend whose in college and thinks her parents might throw her out because he's dating a girl from Coolock while he's from Donnybrook.

How common are relationships like these in Ireland? Would it be common for someone from the travelling community to date someone from a posh area of Dublin?

If not, why?

2020.09.10 21:00 theirishjewelry Charming Irish Wedding Traditions and Superstitions

Charming Irish Wedding Traditions and Superstitions
Irish wedding traditions date far back in history and many have survived in one form or another today. These Irish wedding traditions were rooted in nature came from folklore and superstitions for generations. passed on generations. Today Irish couples around the world seek to incorporate these ancient Irish wedding traditions in their modern-day wedding as a way pay tribute or to reconnect with their Irish heritage.
Have you ever heard the phrase "HIS GOOSE IS COOKED"?
The expression 'his goose is cooked' is still in use in Ireland and especially in Dublin. The phrase originated from the tradition of cooking a goose for the groom in the Bride's house the night before the wedding. Once the goose was cooked there was simply no going back!
TYING THE KNOT... the Celtic Knot
Perhaps the best-known Irish Wedding Tradition that most people don't know about is tying the knot. Did you know the phrase "Tying the Knot" originated with the ancient Celtic ceremony of hand fasting? This old Celtic tradition symbolizes the joining of two as one like the exchanging of rings today. The couple clasps their hands together and a brightly colored cord in the bridal party colors is wrapped around their hands as a symbol of their unity in marriage.
IRISH LACE, an Irish Wedding Tradition
Irish Lace is commonly used as an Irish Wedding Tradition. Irish lace began in the 1800's many families in Ireland lived in small thatched cottages on land called crofts producing crops for the Lord of the Manor. Crofters were "dirt poor" with little money for necessities. Then the potato blight hit between 1845 and 1851 destroying the crops and causing thousands of families to starve. The Ursuline nuns were familiar with Venetian lace, brought over from France. The nuns used their skills in crocheting lace to help save the people from the famine. They began schooling women to produce the fine crochet that has come to be known as "Irish lace." The more affluent Irish families that could meet the expense to buy the lace earned the name of "lace curtain Irish." Families had their own designs and motifs and closely guarded their patterns which were passed from mother to daughter. The particulars were kept so secret that many of them vanished as the families either died or fled the poverty for other lands.
FLOWERS and Shamrocks of course
For good luck to the marriage, a sprig of shamrocks is tucked into the bouquet. The lucky Shamrock is also the symbol of Ireland. It is also customary to decorate the house that the wedding celebration was held in with locally grown flowers and plants. These would vary according to the time of the year that the wedding was held. Some plants have become associated with Ireland, not least the now readily available 'Bells of Ireland', used in modern times for its symbolism. A Celtic tradition in Wales involves the plant Myrtle which is presented by the Bride to the Bridesmaids who then plant it in their gardens. If the plant grew, then the Bridesmaid would be married before the year is out!
It is now usual for the 'magic hanky' to be made from Linen although it is likely the original versions were made from cheaper materials. It was usual for the Bride to carry the hanky on her wedding day and for it to be retained and later converted to a Christening hat/bonnet for her first child. The hanky would be passed on from generation to generation to be re-used in a similar manner. THE
Irish jewelry is known to be steeped in irish tradition. It is quite common for a traditional Claddagh Ring to be used at an Irish wedding, as a wedding band. The ring is faced outwards prior to the wedding and reversed to face inwards on the hand after the wedding, indicating that the bearer is taken forever! The Claddagh Ring is one of the most well-known romantic symbols of Ireland.
The tradition of a horseshoe is well known throughout the world and so it is in Ireland. By placing the horseshoe upright over a door or in a room the 'luck of the house' was kept intact. The Greeks associated the horseshoe with the crescent moon and its symbolism of fertility. The tradition was popular throughout Ireland and England too with the readily available horseshoe being carried by the Bride as she walked down the aisle. It was then affixed securely by the Groom in the matrimonial home. Today, glass and ceramic horseshoes are symbolically used at Irish wedding ceremonies.
WEDDING BELLS and the Make Up Bell
The use of Church bells in Christian religions is symbolic of driving away the evil spirits from the marriage to be. In Penal times in Ireland this was not possible, so the gift of a small bell acted as a substitute. Modern Irish weddings often have stationery, invitations, bunting, and decorations adorned with bells, hearts, shamrocks, and horseshoes. A small glass or ceramic bell can be used in the Church service and kept as a memento. It is a tradition in Ireland to present a couple with a "make-up" bell for their wedding or anniversary, even engagement. The chime of bells is thought to keep evil spirits away and to restore harmony if a couple is fighting. The sound of the bell, much like a church bell is to remind a couple of their wedding vows. This bell is also rung when one partner is ready to "make up" and end any little quarrel. Each partner should take turns ringing the bell, lest a quarrel begin again.
It is considered better luck to get married during a time of plenty. A bountiful harvest year, is a good omen for any newly married couple. It is better that a man be the first person to wish joy and happiness to the new Bride, and never a woman.
A wedding party should always avoid crossing paths with a Funeral procession. Seems like an obvious one.
Upon the bride and groom leaving the Church paper confetti to tossed at the betrothed, but in ancient times an old shoe was tossed over the head of the Bride for luck - not so lucky if it hits the Bride though!
Placing a statue of 'the Child of Prague', a small statue of the Holy Infant Jesus, in the garden of the Bride prior to the wedding is supposed to ensure that her big day is blessed by nice weather.

2020.09.09 11:08 cgcool132 Should I tell my mother about my court dates?

Ok so Im I'm 35 and I haven't seen it spoken to my mother in nearly 7 years partly because after she left me homeless when I was 28. Partly because she is insisting on a mediator which I don't want. I've offered to meet for a coffee/meal. I never had any friends and that made me too close to my family who frustrated me. They have all been through the education system and came out with qualifications. Because was out of school at ten I was out I was out of school when I was 10 because I have dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder with Attention Deficit Disorder) I was put into simple courses which were of no benefit just to keep troubled youths occupied and at 14 I started to get stoned (first hash cannabis bud later) then somebody I met in the course used me to get weed and money from me as he saw me as better off then him despite my mother telling me to drop him. Always being chubby a bit unmotivated and prone to overeating with really very bad teeth. the weed didn't help. When I got upset of just go to my room lie on my bed watch downloaded TV shows and think about suicide. I'd often say to myself when I was younger "nobody likes me" and get stoned with the weed I bought with money from my overly generous (enabling) grandmother.
Because we are not a religious family I went to a place in my mid twenties which taught the Indian outlooks on life and always being stubborn lonely and hurt person I would do attempt to use this philosophy to contradict my mother and be lazy (saying peace is in the present moment and just watch TV and stuff my face, then recently I heard Ekhart Tolle) despite her being right. I was thinking I had learnt something that would impress her but it didn't work (My father was never interested in having anything to do with me or my brother and 2 sisters).
While homeless I had asked family for a landlord reference but they never gave me one. Then a guidance counselor in the probation services counselor in the probation services have me that reference which worked and got a flat which in the counselors mind was my chance to move on. Unfortunately I moved in next door to a cute kind 30 year old stoner woman with a kid. She ask me sometimes if I wanted smoke with her which I did then I would be hooked and just look for others to smoke with and feel bad being alone (because at heart I'm an extrovert who need others approval more then most and if use weed to get that) remaining totally unchanged in life. So in my flat is ponder the philosophy and the arguments to my mother (ruminate).
So for the first few years was getting my clothes but stealing them or get them from free services because there's a lot of homeless charities in Dublin Ireland but not easy to get my sizes so I'd steal mainly and banked the rest of my unemployed payment of €203 per week. I could never seem to get hired no matter what I tried. So I managed to save €18000 and €10 from my mother who sold the house. Then Ireland if you rent a flat you get 6 years then you can be got to leave no questions asked so that has me stressed with one 2 years left. I wanted see my mother when I have some kind of a life I could be proud of but it never happened.
I am frustrated she be the only woman I'll have really known, that I won't have ever travelled, I won't have a job I could tolerate, clothes are now getting too big for me and I don't feel like stealing anymore and everytime I should act on my better judgement despite seeing the all the potential outcomes I do the stupid thing anyway. I have court dates coming up I want to see my mother but feel to either embarrassed or ashamed about it. One judge told me to get urine tests for weed which aren't available in Ireland so I ordered them online and brought them to my doctor sign off. Another case my charges for theft of a handbag which my solicitor thinks he can do away with giving false information to the police and I think resisting arrest but I'm not sure about that one but there is one more and they of course this covid-19 lockdown kept pushing things back because courts have been closed. Then I got one more in a different situation giving fake information to police not moving on when asked but they were obstructing my path and resisting a search which they did do.
I have no sellable skills no teeth and no future prospects of accommodation or any type of personal happiness or any real self-confidence of my own. I do meditate from time to time which helps but not a solution and I don't know how to face my mother. and I'll probably be treated like a monster because I allowed my grandmother to die before seeing her again even though that I was asked to see her and I just don't know if I am going to do the same with my mother I have decided to never mind my father.
Thanks a million.
