Close protection – is a concept that has been known for ages – it has been with us since early days of humankind and now its condition is more than satisfactory. Since time immemorial, people have tried to protect their wealth, assets, as well as their own health, life, and welfare. By means of the transfer of gathered goods, wealthy individuals have been paying other parties to protect them, their families, and possessions from others. As a general rule, young, notably strong, and grim-looking individuals have been considered perfectly suitable for such a job. The idea behind such a choice has been to scare away a potential adversary by taking advantage of the very looks of the guard. The aforementioned state of affairs has been observed for the consecutive ages. Wealthy landowners and kings created their own trusted guards (in ancient times and during the medieval age, those were troops designated to protect the authorities; later on, they were transformed into elite soldiers). Aside from serving representative and managerial purposes, such individuals were required to take care of their master and his beloved ones. In the 11th century England, during the Battle of Hastings, King Harold assembled a group of troops to protect his life and widely understood health condition. One may consider them to be the ancestors of modern bodyguards. As both civilization and society progressed, there were an increasing number of various organizations and people. Therefore, the risk of attack was significantly higher. Numerous authorities attempted to discourage potential aggressors from committing a crime by introducing severe forms of punishment. It must be noted, however, that there was still the question if it was enough to protect high authorities and the wealthy from the effects of outside attacks. The protection-oriented market has been developing to be – at some point – dominated by professional soldiers. The said progression has made it possible for police officers to investigate and deal with common, less dangerous crimes only. Together with technical revolution and the increasing social awareness, the number of citizens not satisfied with the current order skyrockets. It is likely to cause radical groups aiming at the change of the existing ruling paradigm to occur. This in turn may lead to anarchy and the increase in people willing to put their antisocial theories and plans into effect. The latter may start from sabotaging the work of others and demolishing valuable devices, but it may also end up in killings. If such a thing happens, one may openly talk about terrorism. The unusual social situation boosts the demand for personal protection. Both the army and police focus on securing the wellbeing of those of high position in the country. The rest of the threatened society must protect itself. The demand identified above has given rise to a new profession – a security guard. In the past, it was performed in a more or less organized fashion and that is why the effectiveness of arising task achievement varied. The attempt on Tsar’s Alexander the Second life on 1st March 1881 is a perfect exemplification of the formulated thesis. The ruler in question was attacked by the members of Narodnaya Volya at 2:15 P.M. A bomb was thrown under the carriage, but its explosion did not harm either the tsar or the horses. Alexander the Second, together with his companion including secret police representatives, started to assess damages. It was a mistake. At 2:20 P.M, yet another bomb was detonated. Its accuracy was notably higher as it managed to severely injure the tsar. He died relatively quickly, even with professional care he was under. At this point, it must be indicated that the demand for close protection increases. However, the perception of it is in a significant number of cases rather faulty, leading to pitiful outcomes. As it was hundreds of years earlier, modern people tend to hire grim musclemen to protect them, disregarding the fact that their intellectual level and possessed knowledge are negligible. Formerly, a test had to be passed in order for a person to be considered a bodyguard. Unfortunately, it does not hold true anymore. On numerous occasions, we can observe security guards stylized to look like stats of action movies, with the lack of intelligence written all over their faces. To give them justice, such people may also perform exceptionally well – up to the time they encounter a real attack. Unprofessional guards may be employed to protect rock stars or boxers. Real bodyguards of today are, however, highly skilled and motivated. They are trained to prevent rather than to counteract, as it may be too late in the latter case. Such people are capable of estimating potential risk and juxtaposing it with the resources at their disposal that may minimize it. Modern security guards are physically active, as well as skilled in giving first aid and driving a car defensively. They can fight without using any weapon – especially by taking advantage of psychology and persuasion. Such people are proficient in at least two languages and are characterized by an above-average intelligence level. The described model of a security guard is perfectly suited to current conditions and the needs of individuals hiring them. VIP close protection over the world – organizations specializing in personal protection. One of the most famous and at the same time – the oldest organized bodies dealing with close protection was created in the 19th century. It was the American United States Secret Service. The USSS was created in 1865 as the US Treasury Law Enforcement Agency. Secret Service is the oldest national agency focusing entirely on investigations. Initially, their only task was to protect the economic structure of the country by means of preventing governmental cheques and bonds from being counterfeited. The mission was followed up to 1901, when president William McKinley was attacked in Buffalo (NY state). The assault resulted in appointing the Secret Service by the US Congress to protect the newly elected president, Theodore Roosevelt. In 1906, the Congress finally adopted the act on the responsibility of the Secret Service for the safety of the White House. Since 1950, the protection has been extended from presidents and first ladies only to vice-presidents as well. Before the murder of John F. Kennedy in 1963 and senator Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, the Secret Service had been a relatively small organization, employing as many as 284 agents. The discussed events translated directly into its rapid development. Currently, it is stated that over 5000 employees work for the Secret Service. Separate branches of the organization are located all over the United States, in Puerto Rico, and in other places all over the world (Paris, Lyon, London, Bonn, Rome, Milano, Hong Kong, Montreal, Lefkosa, Bogota, and Manila). The representatives of the organization are both secret agents (serving protection and investigation-related roles), as well as uniformed units responsible for the safety of the White House and diplomatic outposts. They maintain law and order by means of the network of both foot and motorized patrols, as well as of fixed posts. Such people also support other branches of the Secret Service. A wide scope of professional is also employed therein – those are electronics, engineers, communication experts, protection-related professionals, and IT workers. The Secret Service protects the president with his family, vice-president, elected vice-president, candidates for the said posts (from the 120th day before the elections onwards), former president, his children up to 16, as well as heads of other states staying in the USA in order to realize international missions. The unit of the Secret Service liable for taking care about the safety of the president in the White House fulfills its duties in identical uniforms. Due to the said fact, the Secret Service is sometimes referred to as the Uniformed Division. Its tasks also include the protection of president’s mansions, diplomatic outposts in Washington, and places alike located within the borders of the USA. Another known formation is the Swiss Guard (Latin: Cohors Helvetica) which was for the very first time gathered on 22nd January 1506 by the then pope – Julius II. Its major aim was to protect the spiritual successor of Saint Peter and his palace. The pope wanted to grant himself protection from the enemies and avoid a political murder. In 1512, the Guard secured Vatican against French soldiers. The Defendants of the Church, as the representatives of the discussed formation were also called, had to face the biggest trail while taking care of pope Clemens VII during the invasion of Roman emperor, Charles V. The boldness, discipline, and resourcefulness of the representatives of the Guard made it possible to save the life of the pope, even though about 600 bold men died in the process. To commemorate the event, a solemn vow of the newly appointed guards takes place every year on 6th May. Each of the Swiss guards-to-be holds a banner in his left hand and raises his right hand with the thumb and two other fingers in an upright position (it is the symbol of the Holy Trinity). Then, the new soldiers promise to protect the pope and – to die in his defense if necessary. The representatives of the Swiss Guard are chosen from men between the age of 19 and 25 living in one of Swiss cantons (basing on contracts with Zurich and Lucerne). Each of them has to be at least 174 cm (5 feet and a half inch) tall and be an unmarried practicing Catholic (according to a special letter issued by the local bishop). Candidates for the service are properly trained, including teaching them how to use firearms, side arms, as well as how to defend themselves and establish proper contacts with other people. One of the items of the list is the proper usage of halberd. Currently, the number of soldiers in the Guard is estimated to circulate around 120, including officers, junior, and senior soldiers. They serve in the formation from two to twenty-five years. It must be also indicated at this point that officers and senior sergeants may be granted by the pope the right to enter into a holy matrimony. Aside from their characteristic outfit, soldiers are additionally equipped with halberds and Renaissance swords – those are the symbols of formation’s tradition. Nowadays, they are also fitted with firearms, tear gas, and excellent communication-oriented devices. With its almost five hundred years of heritage, the Swiss Guard is one of the oldest active defense-oriented groups in the world. One may assume that it will last until Switzerland and the Catholic Church exist. Yet another example of a close protection-focused formation is the Cedrug Order, the major task of which is to take care about the ruler of Tibet – Dalai Lama. It comprises of national spiritual authorities who organized themselves in a form of an order. Thanks to strict upbringing, their physical strength is much higher than the one of secular officials. Therefore, the former are the most trusted soldiers caring about the safety of the leader of the nation. Cedurg School is located in the left wing of Potala – the palace of Dalai Lama, which is in turn situated in the Holy City of Lhasa (eastern Tibet, Kyitsu river valley). Every Tibet citizen is allowed to enroll to the school, but only chosen ones are granted the privilege to join the Order. For several hundred years, there have been a limited number of monks allowed, namely – 175. Only selected candidates have been worthy enough to defend the powerful Dalai Lama. Those are especially bold, tall, and muscular men. The representatives of the Order earned their name in 1959, when they protected the king of Tibet against Chinese adversaries. One of the biggest organizations in the world established to consociate and train bodyguards is the International Bodyguard Association (IBA). The IBA was established in 1957 in Paris by major Lucien Victor Ott. Major Ott had been closely connected to the French Foreign Legion in Algeria since his early childhood. He had been born and raised in the said country. In 1947, he joined the French Special Forces and took part in France-Indochina war. Furthermore, he was the participant of the battle of Dien-Bien Phu that ended with the defeat of the French forces. He was being injured and captured by Vietminh. After a bold escape, he decided to join forces with the French Military Intelligence (Deuxieme Bureau). Major Lucien Ott got famous due to, inter alia, perfect securing of president Charles de Gaulle against the OAS terrorist organization. Thanks to him, 30 prepared attacks were foiled, 11 of which were aimed directly at the head of the state. After the death of the creator of a modern bodyguard profile, major Ott, one of his students – James G. Shortt took care of the management of the IBA. As a young man, he had joined a cadet school. Later on, he had become landing operation troops officer and a member of the elite SAS (Special Air Service) unit. Moreover, during his service, he also taught soldiers in Afghanistan the art of Mujahedeen war. Currently, he teaches security guards, police officers, and soldiers all over the world in the IBA branches. The main aim of the organization is to properly prepare bodyguards-to-be to properly perform their duties. It is not an entity employing such individuals, but those who have presented exceptional skills may become members of royal, diplomatic, or personal guards recommended by the IBA. Coaches being the representatives of the organization trained bodyguards in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as helped during the Baltic Crisis between 1989 and 1991. The qualifications of the International Bodyguard Association are exceptional, international, and backed by the documentation concerning the organization of training sessions for the military, governmental authorities, police, and private bodyguards all over the world. Such undertakings have been continuously performed since 1957. The IBA also operates and trains willing individuals in Poland. Its branch was established in the said country in 1992. The basic training offered to candidates includes 60 hours of comprehensive preparation divided into six consecutive days. After its completion, the candidates are required to undergo the so-called refresher once a year. It is one of the conditions of the membership in the IBA. Another training organization worth mentioning is the ESI - Executive Security International. It must be highlighted that it is one of the biggest and most appreciated American companies oriented towards training personal protection guards. Its second name is as follows: Bodyguard Training Academy for Executive, Dignitary and Celebrity Protection. The ESI was formed at the beginning of the 80s by Bob Duggan – martial arts expert and master in Hwarang Do. Its creation had been preceded by the establishment of the very first bodyguard training program by the Martial Arts Academy in Aspen, Colorado. The ESI, being one of the USA’s private schools, offers its students over 2000 hours of education with regard to protection, investigation, data gathering, company and individual security, etc. The training unit of the organization is situated high up in the mountains and is run by skilled professionals. Fun fact – film writer, Tracy Keenan Wynn, cooperates with the ESI. His preeminent task has been to create scenarios of situational exercises. While writing them, the said individual takes advantage of real life situations and attacks, such as assaults on Aldo Moro, John Paul the Second, kidnapping of Hans Martin Schleyer by the RAF (Red Army Faction), and scenarios alike. The ESI collaborates with corporations operating in the close protection branch of industry, as well as with the police and military. The organized training sessions are top secret. No journalists are allowed to enter the Aspen unit. Due to the fact that the ESI is a private school, it may provide professional training to civil, police-related, and military institutions all over the world. The citizens of Israel have never had the chance to feel safe in their country. The issue of safety has been always treated seriously there. Aside from a constant Israel-Arab world conflict threat, the Israelis have been the subjects of terrorist attracts, both within the borders of their country and outside it. Jews and Americans are most frequent victims of operations organized by highly skilled terrorist groups. Taking into account the impact the Russian mafia has on Israel, the amount of care put on widely understood safety is fully justified. The Israeli Special Forces protect their citizens by means of intelligence and security-oriented undertakings. They host training sessions in various organizations preparing bodyguards, providing the adepts with the experience gained during the service. Most famous units of the said kind in Israel are undoubtedly the ISA - International Security Academy and the ISS - International Security School. ISA is an international organization established and managed by former leaders, police instructors, and special service members. The very first unit of the ISA was formed in Latvia as a training and advising agency for both governmental and private security guards belonging to the Baltic States and the countries of the former USSR. The fact that the ISA is not exclusively Israeli in character is proved by the figure of the organization chairman, major Urlich Wegener – the creator and very first leader of German Border Control Service called GSG 9. The team of instructors and coaches also has international roots. The credo of the organization is that the preparation of the individuals for the proper protection of others is the key. Such people have to be offered highest quality training, extensive knowledge, and practical background. The ISS training programs are based predominantly on the experiences gained in Israel and in other countries, as well as while training people for the purpose of protecting VIPs over the world. Individuals, governmental authorities, and large-size corporations have been taking advantage of the services provided by the ISA/ISS. At the moment, civil bodyguards are also involved in close protection. The safety of the individuals hiring them, as well as their possessions depends highly on the qualifications of the former. Quite frequently, those are former policemen, soldiers, or special force members. However, a number of inexperienced adepts would like to start their adventure with personal protection as well. Are they bound to fail in their attempts? It is not always so. The most crucial component affecting the effectiveness of the training is one’s psychological preparation. It is a commonly known fact that it is exceptional in former police officers and troops. However, it is a common belief that one can be trained how to perform the job of a bodyguard, just as it is possible to teach a person how to shoot or be properly engaged in melee combat. It all depends on one’s motivation and willingness to achieve success in the industry. Regulations to date limit the training process of a security guard to the moment of being awarded with a license. In order to perform his tasks properly, such a person has to constantly improve his skills and qualifications. Phenomena connected with the need of utilization of close protection techniques – Terrorism/Terrorist. It goes without saying that terrorism is one of the biggest threats of today’s world. While analyzing the severity of attacks and their scale, one should not doubt that VIPs should be at all possible occasions protected against the aforementioned forms of assault. In order to assess the threat a given problem pose, its specificity must be identified at first. The notion of „terrorism” was for the first time in history used during the Conference of the International Criminal Law Association in Brussels, in 1930. To date, there have been approximately 200 various definitions of the phenomenon in question. While trying to grasp its characteristic features, one will face a number of limitations and difficulties. One of statements of historian Walter Laqueur has to be touched upon here. While asked why he has been avoiding formulating an unequivocal definition of terrorism, he replied: „For 50 or so years, people are constantly trying to understand the idea behind terrorism. It is a phenomenon having different forms, depending on its place of origin and epoch. How can one find common ground between Russian revolutionists from the end of the 19th century and Al-Qaida anarchists? Terrorism is mainly based on the utilization of force or threat in order to achieve political or ideological goals. It is hard to say something beyond that. Terrorism is like pornography – it escapes logical classification, but if one sees it – then it becomes apparent.” It is hard to argue with the statement, as it perfectly shows the complexity of the phenomenon in question. For the purpose of this publication, a strict definition of terrorism is not needed. All that is required is the utterance formulated by Walter Laqueur stating that terrorism can be most fully perceived through its manifestations. Terrorist acts are undoubtedly illegal, as they are based on kidnapping people and forcedly taking control over means of communication, economic sabotage, attacks, robberies, demanding ransom to finance organization’s own activity, posing threat to life, health, and freedom of authorities, and kidnapping people from outside the area in order to gain publicity (especially journalists, priests, voluntary workers). One may also indicate the usage of explosives and firearms in public areas and poisoning certain spots by means of radioactive materials and chemicals. Longin Tadeusz Szmidt additionally pointed out that terrorism has always been strictly connected with crafty and hard to identify methods of killing the leaders of nations. While describing the phenomenon of terrorism as a threat for the protected person, one should also point out and indicate its sources. The following are enumerated: - social and economic sources that are directly connected to economic crises, social tensions, social and national discrimination, as well as with the perception of dissonance between the factual reality and the one presented by the media; - historical and political sources. They have their beginning in severe social reactions, demanding full democratization and respecting human rights; - sociological sources that may be related to the atmosphere typical for a given country or the so-called spirit of violence; - psychological sources stating that a significant part of terrorists is highly mentally unstable which is additionally combined with the overly high self-esteem. When it comes to the area of attack, the following are proposed by the experts: - land terrorism (the major threat area for VIPs and the key one for security guards), - air terrorism (personal protection is then entrusted to the authorities managing planes, airports, etc.), and – maritime terrorism (tasks and responsibilities are then similar to air attacks). While taking into account the type of terroristic activities, one may distinguish: bombing-based, nuclear, biological, chemical, technical, cybernetic (attacks on IT networks), and narcotic-oriented (narcotic cartels undertakings) terrorism. The highest threat for VIPs is undoubtedly the first type, namely – bombing-based one. Close protection-oriented undertakings should therefore incorporate the knowledge on paradigms effective during a bomb attack. They will be discussed in further sections of this publication. It is exceptionally difficult to argue with the thesis that we must be protected against terrorism. The same applies to VIPs. The importance of the latter is also worth discussing, as the threat is much higher when a top authority is attacked than when the assault poses threat to a pop star or a wealthy businessman. However, it does not limit the necessity to analyze and counteract terroristic attack threat. It may directly impact the safety of the person a given security guard is responsible for. Crime is also one of the issues that may endanger protected VIPs. Up to the beginning of the 80s, Poland had been considered to be one of the safest countries in Europe. Law enforcement bodies had been numerous and properly financed there, and crime forecasting, prevention, and penalizing schemes had met all the European standards. However, at the end of the discussed period, the myth of threat-free Poland started to crumble. The effects of crime fighting scene were becoming gradually more negligible. The said state of affairs was predominantly caused by the decreasing trust in law enforcing organizations, as well as by the rapid increase in crimes committed by the citizens. Another important aspect that must be taken into account were economic and political changes taking place in 1989,the liberalization of economic activity, and the emergence of free market. Some individuals possessed unimaginable riches, whereas others were exceptionally poor. In order to survive till the next day, the latter searched for the answer in crimes, leading to the occurrence of the phenomenon commonly known as organized crime. According to official data from 2001, within the borders of Poland, there were over 400 organized crime groups consociating approximately 45 thousand people. They were generating profits by means of goods smuggling, selling stolen cars, producing and marketing narcotics, counterfeiting national currency, commuting bank frauds, selling firearms, and – what is of exceptional importance from the point of view of VIPs – demanding ransom. Criminals induce fear in the society, especially due to using terror and blackmailing. They do not hesitate to kidnap others or kill them. Such individuals resort to brutal treatment, such as beating, torturing, drowning, etc. All those factors combined directly translate into wealthy representatives of the society feeling threatened. What is more, criminals frequently tend to attack the family of a VIP as well, in order to convince him to perform a given action. Therefore, children, wife, and beloved ones of such an individual must be highly protected. Popularity/Fame –The threat of attack may be in some cases linked to the popularity of a given human being. When a VIP is in isolation, then he may only receive unwanted phone calls or be nagged by photographers. The problem arises when he has to leave his place of permanent residence or workplace, as well as when he is in a publically accessible place. Danger may still be low, but the inquisitiveness of journalist may quickly become overwhelming. Fans or supporters of a given sportsman or artist may cause havoc in order to touch their idol or get hold of any item belonging to him or her. Of course, there is also the risk of serious injuries or even death (let us take John Lennon as an example) – it cannot be neglected. That is why famous and popular individuals should by all means care about their safety. The matter also concerns politicians who are widely recognizable and controversial. In politics, there are no limitations. Opponents may even resort to killing a representative of the other side to impose his or her right on others. Elected politicians tend to have close protection, but care should be additionally exercised to care about those running in elections. Such VIPs may be ridiculed by the crowd or the opposition (by throwing eggs or pouring water over the candidate), leading to the end of their political career. The role of security guards should in the aforementioned cases not be limited to physical protection only. They must also keep information about VIP’s family, realized projects, and operation profile confidential. The image of a famous person highly depends on the bodyguards being in his immediate surroundings. The manner of their operation, professionalism, and knowledge are top priorities there. Attack on person – By definition, attack on person is the attempt to kill someone, steal his or her possessions, as well as to kidnap him or her. The criminal action in question has a long history, as assaults have been made throughout the consecutive ages. Their goal has been to achieve a political, economic, or cultural aim. Attacks on person may lead to tremendous changes in the society, which is perfectly depicted by the killing of John Kennedy and Icchak Rabin. In the majority of cases, however, such an attack does not have significantly far-reaching consequences. In order to be effective, bodyguards must answer themselves the following questions – why do criminals attack? How do they attack? How may the assault look like? Therefore, it is highly advised to specify the motif, methods utilized, and consecutive stages of one and every attack on person. Taking into account motifs, one must bear in mind that all the assaults have their agenda. No attack is made voluntarily, without forethought. In the following sections, most common causes of the aforementioned activity are going to be enumerated: Revolutionary or political ones – organized groups (frequently consisting of fanatics) attack others in order to force the society to change the existing system or overthrow the current government (in the attempt to choose a new one). Their victims are often the authorities ruling the country. The attackers, who follow their revolutionary or political agenda, try to win the sympathy of other representatives of the society. Long before the planned attack itself, they distribute leaflets blaming current rulers for the widespread injustice. According to their belief, the elimination of the elites in power would bring positive outcomes for the whole country. Such an action was performed in Armenia in 1999, where members of the government were shot dead during one of their meetings. The terrorists informed that their death would improve the national situation. Economic – terrorists claim that their potential victim is responsible for the poor economic condition of the country, company, or a group of people. In the majority of cases, economic attacks take place in countries where there are extreme disproportions between the wealthy and the poor. It must be taken into consideration, however that it is not always the case, as the assessment of the attackers tend to be highly subjective. Quite frequently, the cause of the assault is the personal conviction that the unsatisfying economic condition of the terrorist is the result of actions performed by the victim. It pushes the attacker into thinking that killing him would aid the situation. Personal – In this case, the wrongdoers are motivated to make an attack due to jealousy, vengeance or other personal causes. Those people in many cases have notable personality disorders, manifesting themselves especially in the inability to control their behavior. The aforementioned state also leads to the failure to distinguish reality from fiction. A perfect exemplification of the motif in question is shooting Zuzanna Leśniak and an artist – Andrzej Zaucha by Yves Goulais in 1991. The trigger there was jealousy. Ideological – The terrorist is convinced that the victim chosen by him has been threatening the values and principles followed by the attacker. The said rules are often of significant importance for both the group he belongs to and for himself personally. Ideological attacks on a person may be religious or social in character. The first case is oriented towards killing a religious person in the attempt to make it impossible for him to achieve his goals. The second scenario relates to the willingness to eliminate the leader of a given social group. Quite frequently, the additional agenda is to make the organization the terrorist is a part of more memorable and popular in the media. Free publicity is an additional benefit then. Psychological – The most commonplace group of attacks. Modern psychology claims that every person using firearms, stabbing others with a knife, or taking advantage of explosives has been struggling with mental problems. The motif is of negligible importance, as the attacker may justify his actions with revolutionary, economic, or personal goals, but the fact is that the driving force is the inability to perceive the world correctly. The assassination of Bill Clinton in 1994 illustrates the above bluntly. Francisco Martin Duran stated that he had attacked Clinton to destroy the mist connecting him to an alien entity. Apparently, Duran wanted to eliminate the mist in order to save the world. Attacks considered as crimes may be triggered by a myriad of factors. Among them, there are: - clashes between the representatives of a crime organization, willingness to demonstrate one’s power or threat the victim (attempt to force the latter to pay ransom or forget about debts), - desire to kill suspects that may endanger one’s business, - attempt to exert pressure on certain individuals or to threaten them for their professional achievements (relates to, inter alia, attorneys and tax collectors). Attack methods to be considered by security guards. Close range attack. It may be performed by means of utilization of: - firearms, - melee weapon (knife, bayonet, dagger), - chemical substance (for example: toxic substance, such as hydrochloric acid). There are no exceptional skills needed to successfully attack a person, as almost everybody can use a knife or a dagger to a satisfactory extent. The same goes with firearms, the utilization of which is as difficult as driving a car. The aforementioned types of weapons can be transported to the place of the assault with ease. The characteristic feature of this attack type is the fact that the wrongdoer is situated maximally several centimeters away from the victim. The difficulty here is directly connected with the inability to improvise the act. It must be preceded by a prolonged observation of the subject, learning his or her customs, daily routine, places he or she visits, and the protection type he or she uses. Only after drawing proper conclusions from the examination, can the terrorist attack the victim. Marek Papała, a police commissioner, was killed due to a close range attack in 1998, Warsaw. Long-range attack – in this case firearms are often used, especially rifles and carbines. It is not an uncommon situation to learn about an attacker who has used a sniper rifle fitted with professional laser and optical aiming devices. The distance between the wrongdoer and the subject of the attack is commonly higher than 5 meters. The former must also be much more skilled than a close range attacker, as he has to be capable of utilizing a professional gun in an effective manner. The death of John Kennedy in Dallas on 22nd November 1963 was the result of the attack form in question. Lee Harvey Oswald, who was a former marine soldier, shot his subject from a storage located several meters away from president’s cavalcade. To perform the act, he used Mannlicher-Carcano, cal. 6.5 mm rifle. The proficiency of the attacker was proven by the fact that he fired three shots and only one of them missed the target. Attack with explosives – it requires notable skills, for the wrongdoers has to build a bomb before performing the attack. He must also know how and where to plant the explosive, how to situate the fuse inside and where to detonate it. Such a person also has to be familiar with the effects of explosion. Assault on Margaret Thatcher on 12th October 1984 showed how patient and clever can an attacker taking advantage of explosives be. Patrick Magee, a member of Irish Republican Army, moved into the hotel where the British prime minister was expected to stay 24 days before the said fact. Every single day, he worked meticulously destroying the wall and placing a 50-kilogram explosive inside the hole. The bomb was then fitted with a timer. It exploded when Miss Thatcher was considered to wash herself in the bathroom – the attacker was perfectly acquainted with her customs. She would have died if she had not received a document to be read. The explosive was detonated five floors above the bathroom located in the apartment of the „Iron Lady”. Six other people died as a result, but the suspect managed to avoid the clever assassination. 2020.09.08 22:42 PhattestKidsThe Washington Justice are the best team to represent Season 3 of OWL
Like many people in this sub, I was a little salty after the Paris game when a team with four regular season wins managed to knock out one of the top teams in the league from their playoff run. Then I started thinking about how this monster of a team isn’t finished yet and could potentially dominate the lower brackets to make it into Korea, shutting out another team that has been dominant all year. But the more I think about it, the more I think this team winning the Grand Finals would be the perfect representation of the 2020 season. Begin 2020. Justice start out their year looking promising but have Visa issues for one of their main tank players and end up really struggling to beat out lower tier teams in homestands. Then lockdown rolls around and many players begin to struggle with playing for the league without the travel and stage appearances they were promised. Players mentals start suffering and Justice lose two of their most promising players in Corey and Stratus. On top of that visa issues are made even worse by COVID. Then the Vancouver Titans management seem to absolutely shit the bed (with COVID issues being the straw that broke the camels back) and disband one of the greatest rosters in OWL history. Two of these players looking for a home find refuge in the open arms of Washington. But they still haven’t found their meta and main tank is still an issue. They continue to suffer but mostly everyone except an Egg believe that if things fell in place, they have the potential to be a decent team. Enter the Dallas Fuel. The eternal war between Dallas vs Fuel rages on in Season 3 and the climax of the battle leads to them dropping Decay, their star player right after the leagues signing date ends. But then because of visa problems being worsened by COVID the league allows teams to sign players to hold the spot of players that are abroad. Now Washington’s earliest struggle becomes a massive advantage. Justice snatch the MVP potential talent when it’s impossible for nearly any other team. Meanwhile on Overwatch forums fans have been upset for months because shield girl and shield centaur have been sucking the fun out of matches. The dev team publicly executes them both in an attempt to make playoffs more fun to watch and then buff the Hog on their way out for for good measure. Ladder is thrown into chaos. For the first time in OWL history the meta has the potential to completely exclude the one role that Justice are really weak at, main tank. Oh, and their new Star DPS player also happens to be a Zarya god. Then because of the awkward year caused by COVID issues the league changes the playoff format to allow every team to qualify. Now the Justice armed with three players from crumbling teams enter into the playoffs with a meta so strange that not even the greatest minds in France could have predicted it’s existence. Now this isn’t to say that everything just perfectly fell into the Justice’s lap and it was easy for them. Ttuba, Aimgod, and Ark have massively stepped up and performed really well. Their management and coaching seems to have improved substantially also. But if you think about it, COVID issues made the stars align for Justice with picking up Decay after the signing window, creating a bigger rift between Titans and players to allow their signing, qualifying for playoffs despite only four regular season wins, and then the devs created the perfect cherry on top with the double off tank meta that seems to have caught many teams off guard. So would it be satisfying to watch a team that has worked their asses off all year and maintained a dominant spot in the standings like the Dragons or Fusion to win? Sure. But that would not be 2020. What would be 2020 is for the perfect storm to meet massively unprepared victims and destroy anyone’s ideas of what this year would be. I’m not sure if Justice will be able to climb out of the lower brackets with the tough road they have ahead of them but honestly I’ll be rooting for them. Not because they’re my preferred team to win, but they’re the perfect team to represent what this year has been. A lot of people have said that this year will have an asterisk next to it because the issues created by COVID lead to an awkward year competitively. However if a team with four regular seasons went on to become the champions there would be no asterisk needed. They would be the asterisk. No one would question that year. We would just look back and think “oh yeah, that’s 2020. Fuck 2020.”. TL;DR: perfect storm disease destroys society and allows for the creation of perfect storm team that destroys the league.
Rachel Uchitel floated as Dorinda Medley’s replacement on ‘RHONY’ (Page Six Exclusive) "Could Rachel Uchitel replace Dorinda Medley on “The Real Housewives of New York City?” Page Six has learned that the colorful socialite — who shot to fame as one of Tiger Woods’ many mistresses — was “on the shortlist” to join the Bravo show last season, but producers plumped for Leah McSweeney instead. And now that Medley’s been axed after six seasons, we’re told there’s renewed effort to get her on the cast. An insider told us that Uchitel’s keen to land the gig, and listed her qualifications: “She’s linked to New York — growing up here, and [she was] on the cover of the New York Post as ‘New York’s tragic face.’ ” (We published Uchitel’s picture with that headline on Sept. 14, 2001. In the shot, she holds up a missing person flyer for her banker fiancé, James Andrew O’Grady, who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Uchitel also appeared on Page 1 of The Post a number of times during the Woods scandal.) Meanwhile, they said that — as Page Six has previously reported — she’s been linked to “Real Housewives” lothario Harry Dubin, who has famously dated cast members Sonja Morgan, Ramona Singer and Luann de Lesseps, and was married to former cast member Aviva Drescher. Plus, they said, that Uchitel (bonus gossip alert!) dated Paul “PK” Kemsley of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” for a year, right before he got together with wife Dorit. A Bravo rep denied that they’re considering her to replace Medley, but appeared to acknowledge that she’s previously been in talks to join the show. When we asked Uchitel if she was joining the show, she wrote to us, “News to me!” and a winking emoji."
D’Andra Simmons says ‘RHOD’ will address Brandi Redmond’s racist video ‘head on’ (Page Six) "The next season of “Real Housewives of Dallas” will address some of the cast’s racist remarks, according to star D’Andra Simmons. Simmons, 50, told Page Six of Redmond’s scandal, “We will address that first thing head on. I think that’s very important for the show. We can’t just sweep it under the rug, especially since it was such a big deal for people and they were very upset about it.” The Hard Night Good Morning CEO implied that some other conversations surrounding race — aside from Redmond’s remarks — will take place on the upcoming season, which is currently in its last weeks of filming. “I can’t really talk about the other cast members, but there’s another reason why we had to do that, as well,” she said. “You’ll have to wait and see [what that is].” Simmons said in regards to Locken’s insensitive remarks from Season 4 about her co-star Kary Brittingham’s Mexican heritage, the cast doesn’t “really talk about that” this season since Locken, 53, is no longer on the show. Conversations about race will not only be a focal point on “RHOD,” but also in “My Brothers’ Crossing,” a film Simmons co-produced with her husband, Jeremy Lock, a former photojournalist." NeNe Leakes deletes Instagram over rumors of return to ‘RHOA’ (Page Six) "Nene Leakes has deleted her Instagram account after routinely being asked by fans whether she’ll return for Season 13 of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” There’s been buzz about Leakes’ contract negotiations to return. Sources have said she’s been holding out for a bigger payday, but Bravo might add fresh faces instead."
Former Real Housewives of Sydney star Krissy Marsh says the drama on the show 'wasn't scripted' and that producers were shocked by how nasty and toxic the cast were (Daily Mail/Back from Reality Podcast) "The Real Housewives of Sydney was infamously dubbed 'too extreme' to air in the US. And in a new interview, cast member Krissy Marsh claims that not only was the drama not scripted, but that producers were blindsided by how nasty the cast turned out to be. Speaking to the Back From Reality podcast, the 48-year-old said: 'I don't think even the producers knew what they were getting.' She added: 'I don't think they realised how crazy and how nasty some of these women were.' The former reality star said that none of the drama was fake, and that producers didn't even need to encourage anybody to drink because the women 'were getting drunk on our own accord'. Krissy said that things got so nasty and vicious at one point that she quit the show during filming to try and protect her family. Krissy revealed that she rallied some of the other cast members together and that they all walked out on a scheduled promotional shoot for the show until producers agreed to remove a potentially defamatory scene from the series. 'They had no option but to basically cut out and write out what had been said that night,' she said. While Krissy declined to reveal what exactly was said, she said it was much worse than the drama that viewers saw on screen and that it was something that could've affected her children. She added that the mystery castmate that said the remark about her family was 'not of sound mind'."
Real Housewives' Gizelle Bryant 'disturbed for days' by Candiace and Monique 'brawl' (Daily Star UK exclusive) "Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Gizelle, 49, revealed just how shell-shocked she was about the alleged incident. The mum-of-three told us: "I was completely shocked, I was disturbed for days afterwards. "When we film we have real emotion but we always have found a way for things not to escalate to that level and for it to get there was never something that I thought would happen, so I wasn't happy." She continued: "But it allowed us, on the other side of it, to really have some good discussions about who and what we are as black women in this country, and what we represent. "So if there's any silver lining, it's that we were able to talk about what matters and to kind of hold ourselves up to a level that we're proud of." Re: the men of Potomac getting involved in the franchise, Gizelle laughed: "I think they want to hold a champagne glass [in the opening credits], I think they want to be Housewives! I really don't understand it. And we see more of that this season as well." The beauty joked that she would "co-sign" the decision if producers were to make Michael a featured Housewife in the opening credits, adding: "Michael gets into more trouble than anyone else," Gizelle told us. "Michael gets into all kinds of nonsense. "I don't really know how it was handled between he and Ashley because they have their own personal things, I wasn't there, so I'm curious to see those things just as much as everyone else is." But she teased big things to come, as she cryptically finished: "Michael Darby at our season finale, he stole the show."
Former Black Female TV Execs Launch New Production Company For Diverse Storytelling (Forbes) "Lauren Grace Media, a new production company helmed by two veteran reality television executives, has entered the discussion with a clear mission: To tell diverse stories that people of color can relate to. The company is owned and operated by Dorothy Toran, a former producer for Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and Leslie Farrell, a former vice president of production at NBCUniversal and Bravo Media. “I had been on Jersey Housewives for six or seven years,” says Toran, now president and executive producer of Lauren Grace Media. “Just like everything else, it had been a wonderful experience, but you always get to a point when you are doing something for a really long time and you hit a wall creatively and want to explore what's next. I really wanted to be able to tell stories that I wanted to tell.” But the duo’s professional history has certainly come in handy: Their first project, a 90-minute special titled Race in America: A Movement Not a Moment, aired on Bravo TV, Toran and Farrell’s former company, earlier this month. The special features an in-depth discussion on issues of racism between reality stars including Kandi Burruss and Gizelle Bryant, who weighed in with their personal experiences. “When you think of people who are wealthier than you, famous, or celebrities on television, you think that their life is different,” says Farrell, senior vice president of development and executive producer of Lauren Grace Media. “But what I think that Race in America really showed is, as a Black person in this country, it doesn't matter what echelon you are on. We all share these experiences because racism is systemic.” (more in article)
DallasElection 2020 Voting Resources Voting is an integral part of the American democratic process. Please use the below information to ensure you are ready for the upcoming 2020 election. Regardless of your political stances, make your voice heard. This thread is intended to be a place for people to get information on registering to vote and election day procedures and to ask questions, not to campaign for your favorite candidate(s). Please be respectful and follow the sub rules. Registering to Vote You are eligible to register to vote if:
You are a United States citizen;
You are a resident of the county where you submit the application;
You are at least 17 years and 10 months old, and you are 18 years of age on Election Day.
You are not a convicted felon (you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole); and
You have not been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
Where to Vote On your Voter Registration certificate, you will see a precinct number. Your residence is located in a specific “precinct” or area within the county where you will vote on Election Day. In some cases, precincts may be combined to accommodate joint local elections. Where can I vote during the early voting period? Voting during the early voting period couldn’t be easier and more convenient! Registered and eligible voters may vote at ANY early voting location located in the county of residence. Whether you are at home, work or out running errands, you will be able to find a polling place near you. Early voting locations will be populated in our search site "My Voter Page" two days prior to the first day of early voting. You may want to contact the Early Voting Clerk for State and County Elections in your county for early voting locations. Also, many newspapers publish early voting polling locations. Note: Polling place hours vary at each early voting location. How to Vote When you arrive at the polling place, you will be asked to present one of the seven (7) acceptable forms of photo identification, unless you are a voter with a permanent exemption on your voter registration certificate. If you do not possess a form of acceptable photo identification and you cannot reasonably obtain one, show a supporting form of identification to the election official and execute a Reasonable Impediment Declaration. The election official will ask if you have moved and then ask you to sign the list of people who have voted in the precinct. Depending on the type of election – local, statewide, national, or combination – you will be handed:
A paper ballot on which you will select your choices and which will be counted by hand;
A paper ballot on which you will select your choices by darkening an oval, completing an arrow, or “marking” with the aid of a voting machine; or
A slip of paper with a numerical access code or, in some counties, a ballot activator card. In the next available voting booth, enter your code or card and let the on-screen instructions guide you through the process of electronic voting.
Easy, right? For more information on your rights as a voter, please refer to our section on “Your Rights.” Early Voting Voting Early in Person: Generally, early voting in person begins the 17th day before Election Day (if that’s a weekend, early voting starts on Monday) and ends the 4th day before election day. (EXCEPTION: Early voting for elections held in May starts the 12th day before Election Day and ends on the 4th day before Election Day.) Vote at a location in your political subdivision that’s close to where you live or work. All other voting rules and procedures apply – e.g., eligibility and polling hours. Special Procedures for voting early in person Voting by Mail You may vote early by mail if:
You will be away from your county on Election Day and during early voting;
You are sick or disabled;
You are 65 years of age or older on Election Day; or
If you are voting early because of an expected absence, you may apply in person for a ballot by mail before the early “voting in person” period begins (usually the 17th day before the election). If you are voting by mail because you are disabled or are 65 years of age or older, you may use a single application to request ballots by mail for all county elections in the calendar year. To do so, simply mark “Annual Application” on your application for a ballot by mail when selecting the election for which you are applying. You can write your own application for a ballot by mail, as long as it contains:
Your signature, or a witness’s signature if you cannot sign;
Your name and the address at which you are registered to vote;
The address to which the ballot is to be mailed;
The election date and the election for which you are requesting a ballot, or a statement that you would like ballots for all county elections remaining in the calendar year, if you are eligible (for a primary election, you must state the political party’s primary in which you want to vote); and
A reason why you are eligible to vote early by mail. To be eligible to vote early because you expect to be out of the county, your application must state the out-of-county address where you want your ballot mailed.
2020.08.21 14:22 TWR_ThavmaThe Wayward Rose - Day 1
Everyone makes their way out of their rooms, bearing witness to the various spectacles of the mansion grounds with their own eyes. One moment, the group of you are walking around to get your bearing when reality starts to fold on itself. It begins with the ground itself, then the horizon, then the stars and even galaxies are converging on one point; you. When it reaches you, it all lights up in an explosion of countless colors. Dazed and confused, the lot of you look around, and you find yourself to be in the central room of Thavma's mansion. The woman herself is standing in the middle of the room, with eleven people standing behind her. The woman breaks out into a smile at the sight of you all. "Come, my guests! I do hope you find yourselves well-rested. We have much to discuss." In a flash of golden sparkles, thirteen seats appear in front of Thavma. "Have a seat." Once the group is seated, Thavma takes a step towards the people behind her. "I do believe some introductions are in order. First, you have my assistants in this game: Sonya, Amis, Caina and Lune!" As she says this, she gestures at each of them. The room itself changes for a moment as she does so: When she gestures to Sonya, you see a brief vision of a safari covered with a myriad of blooming flowers and the odd house on the side. When she gestures to Amis, you see the houses grow into a bustling village, filled with various creatures and other forms of life. This then turns into a decrepit and burning husk when she gestures to Caina, as if the village had experienced some great calamity. Finally, when Thavma gestures towards Lune, naught is left but a empty sleeping field. "They've gone to the effort of selecting worlds for all of you to enjoy, come the night. Make sure to give them your thanks. Next up, we have your Patrons, the ones who have decided you all worthy to be here." Thavma turns to gesture to the people behind her once more. "Anya, Elos, Luriel, Mendas, Rakshasa, Sam-Sam, and Thanatine. These people, along with the Quartet, have decided you're all a good pick for my game. I'll let each of them introduce themselves and their domains later. But first..." The woman steps forward. "Tell me, have any of you ever experienced love?" The area around you glows a light pink color, with hearts floating in the air around you. Thavma starts circling around the group of you, looking over you critically. "That feeling... is me. What about happiness? The type that leaves you giddy and content?" The landscape around you changes once more, to that of an open field. Laughter abounds with no visible source. "That feeling is also me. How about rage? The type that leaves you seeing red?" The landscape around you changes to that of a sea of fire. "That is me. So is sadness and grief, and any other emotions you have ever felt... anything you've ever felt from your heart. That is me." After her display of theatrics, Thavma's expression becomes rather smug. "My name is Thavma, and I am the High Goddess of Emotions! It was at my behest that you were all brought here, Beings of Creation. Brought here to help me with... an experiment."" Thavma's expression sours for a moment, but she is quick to correct it. "You have been selected from an uncountably huge pool of souls for this. I hope you all realize what an honor this is, and how lucky you all are to be here." "Do well and you will be rewarded, as you should know from discussing with your patrons. But on top of that reward, this game will also have an overall winner based on a set of criteria we have come up with together. That winner will be granted a wish from us. While we can't make sweeping changes to creation, the range of things we can grant is vast! Far more powerful than what you may already be after, and all you have to do is put on a good show." Thavma gestures to Patrons gathered behind her. "You will all be here for five days and five nights. During the day, all of you will be here, in my mansion and the surrounding grounds. You all speak the Divine Tongue here - the language of the gods, put simply. It allows us to talk on even terms, and allows you to actually communicate." "Another thing. While it may be impossible for you to damage each other here, that doesn't necessarily mean we're going to stop you from trying. That being said, it will be possible to attack another person's soul directly, but all in due time. Each of you will be able to interact, make friendships, find enemies." Thavma's expression turns amused. "Maybe even find love?" The area around you suddenly darkens as if the sun had gone out, before various lanterns start lighting the area. Thavma is carrying one, illuminating her face. "And as I alluded to eariler, during the night... you all will be sent to various places - Rooms, you could call them - to scavenge for items, fight each other, and interact with the situation around you. Nothing found in those rooms will work when taken back here, and nothing found in the mansion grounds can be taken into a room." "Finally, I should add that we'll be hosting events here. The sorts where you can interact with us and each other." Thavma brings out something that looks like a card. "This is a Flower Token. Entertain us to a satisfactory degree during one of these events, and you will be granted one. Trade them in later and you will receive something." The people behind Thavma start moving around. "I do believe that about does it. We will all be watching what unfolds, though feel free to come see us at any time, for any reason. Then not a second later, everyone re-appear just outside of the mansion. "Everything is in place. Let the experiment begin." And so too, does day 1.
Scenario: Thavma waves her hand theatrically as she proclaims: "In this universe that the Quartet has found, Humanity united itself under an Imperial Empire after centuries of strife and war! Feeling more unified than ever, they entered a new age, where the stars themselves were no longer the limit! One particular penal colony was tasked with searching the galaxy for rare, precious metals that served as room-temperature superconductors. They found the perfect planet! But, to their horror, it's filled with native, sentient plant-like creatures that lack high-level intelligence but live peacefully on the surface. Mining the planet would result in their destruction... but the Empire has given orders to seize those precious metals at any cost, and failure will spell their own execution!" The United States filed two civil forfeiture complaints today in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida alleging that commercial real estate in Louisville, Kentucky, and Dallas, Texas, both acquired using funds misappropriated from PrivatBank in Ukraine, are subject to forfeiture based on violations of federal money laundering statutes. Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian C. Rabbitt of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Ariana Fajardo Orshan for the Southern District of Florida, U.S. Attorney Justin E. Herdman for the Northern District of Ohio, and Special Agent in Charge Eric B. Smith of the FBI’s Cleveland Field Office made the announcement. The complaints allege that Ihor Kolomoisky and Gennadiy Boholiubov, who owned PrivatBank, one of the largest banks in Ukraine, embezzled and defrauded the bank of billions of dollars. The two obtained fraudulent loans and lines of credit from approximately 2008 through 2016, when the scheme was uncovered, and the bank was nationalized by the National Bank of Ukraine. The complaints allege that they laundered a portion of the criminal proceeds using an array of shell companies’ bank accounts, primarily at PrivatBank’s Cyprus branch, before they transferred the funds to the United States. As alleged in the complaint, the loans were rarely repaid except with more fraudulently obtained loan proceeds. As alleged in the Complaints, in the United States, associates of Kolomoisky and Bogoliubov, Mordechai Korf and Uriel Laber, operating out of offices in Miami, created a web of entities, usually under some variation of the name “Optima,” to further launder the misappropriated funds and invest them. They purchased hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate and businesses across the country, including the properties subject to forfeiture: the Louisville office tower known as PNC Plaza, and the Dallas office park known as the former CompuCom Headquarters. The buildings have a combined value of approximately $70 million. (read more on the link provided above)
The usual suspects are running puff pieces about Kolomoisky and associates, attempting to tie this action to Trump/Barr as a vendetta, so, I'm very glad they have demanded a Jury Trial. from wapo:
Kolomoisky and Boholiubov were the two major owners of PrivatBank before it was nationalized in response to the fraud, the Justice Department said, and the men basically used it as a personal account to build a business empire in the United States. They requested money from PrivatBank — which they always received because they were owners — then moved the funds through a network of companies to “thoroughly disguise their nature, source, ownership, and control,” the Justice Department alleged. Experts have expressed increasing concern that U.S. real estate — including factories and facilities important to American industry — has become a magnet for foreign money, including proceeds of criminal activities abroad. Among Kolomoisky’s and Boholiubov’s purchases were more than 5 million square feet of commercial real estate in Ohio; steel plants in Kentucky, West Virginia and Michigan; a cellphone manufacturing plant in Illinois; and commercial real estate in Texas, the Justice Department alleged. The forfeiture complaints sought to seize a roughly 19.5-acre office park in Dallas and the PNC Plaza building in Louisville.

2020.08.04 04:42 blawkyyNew Construction Home Closing Delayed due to COVID-19 related appliance manufacturer delays
Hello! First time posting here. First time home buyer in Dallas, TX. Got a contract signed and executed in early July with a closing date of August 8th. The contract is for a new construction home that at the time of signing was 80% done and planned to be completed by the end of July. End of July has come and gone. House is just about 95% complete. AC unit being put in this week, all kitchen appliances need to be delivered/installed, and a handful of other small things. The problem is the appliances. The builder is telling me the manufacturer he is working with says the appliances won't be delivered until mid-to-late August due to COVID-19 related backorder delays. Luckily this wasn't too serious of a problem timeline wise for me as I can stay at my GF's apartment for the time being. However now my lender is telling me my lock rate will expire at the very latest August 17th, after that I will incur rate lock extension fees. My realtor told me the fee was going to be .25% or $700 to extend to September 1st, I have a call with the lender tomorrow to discuss the actual breakdown of the fee based on how long it gets delayed. I have read online that the shorter the delay the less rate-lock extension fee you have to pay. I don't want to pay the fee. The builder refuses to pay the fee. We have decided to push closing to August 17th, AKA the last day to close before the lender charges fees. The builder has verbally agreed with me that he'll have the house completely done except for appliances by the 10th. Giving me enough time to have the finished work inspected, and time for me to do my final walkthrough. All without the appliances of course. He said he will provide a signed document at closing stating his obligation to install the new appliances as soon as they are delivered and even mentioned how we can have something like $3000+ stay in escrow until the appliances are installed. Should I be concerned by this? Everything online says to never close before the house is 100% COMPLETE! Can I somehow get the builder to pay the $700 to extend to September 1st since technically he is the one breaking the contract? Can I get the lender to get rid of the fees given the current world situation with COVID-19? Any advice is welcomed, as I said I am a first time home buyer and will happily take any information I can get. EDIT: I started doing more shopping for lenders and actually found one that gave me a wayyyy better deal. Their loan estimate is going to save me around $3000. I’ll have to get another appraisal but clearly that is still extremely worth it! I’ll also be safe until October for any rate lock extensions as this new lender is being much more lenient given COVID. Now my closing date has been moved to September 1st. It was also very easy to cancel my current lender and move to the other one if anyone in the future is worried about that. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) has risengreatly in popularity in recent time. With many factors (including Covid) raising awareness around ESG it would appear there has never been a better time to invest in thismarket trend/values (besides maybe six months ago). Government subsidies, decarbonization, climate change,industrial/infrastructure upgrades, technological advancements,ESG popularity, greenwashing and police brutality are but a few of the catalysts favouring ESG focused companies (ETFs, funds and SPACs like SPAQ/SOAC). 2020.07.22 21:48 ALiddleBiddleJeffrey Epstein Learned His Sexual Depravity from Wall Street; Then Took It to the Next Level
***Editor's note: This article appeared on August 19, 2019, in Wall Street on Parade: A Citizen's Guide to Wall Street. I searched and it doesn't appear it has been posted on this sub before. It's a fascinating, shocking and appalling snapshot of what it was like for women working on Wall Street. Hopefully we've evolved. Many of the citations were not archived, so I tried to save everything within the document. By Pam Martens and Russ Martens LinkArchive link From 1976 to 1981, Jeffrey Epstein worked for the Wall Street investment bank, Bear Stearns. Epstein was found dead in his jail cell on August 10 while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking of underage girls, dozens of whom he allegedly sexually assaulted after grooming them first with “inappropriate touching.” https://preview.redd.it/kyj6j0vsrgc51.png?width=688&format=png&auto=webp&s=edf7bb8eabeaca867fcf595cea0f17f112c83afb Bear Stearns collapsed in the early days of the 2008 financial crisis and was purchased by JPMorgan Chase. One of the last acts of Bear Stearns’ CEO, Jimmy Cayne, was to make a $2 million payment to a woman who charged that the legendary Chairman of Bear Stearns, Ace Greenberg, had engaged in “inappropriate touching.” The young woman was said to have had a witness to her charges. (Link to archive) In a 2017 report by the New York Times, a former Managing Director of Bear Stearns, Maureen Sherry, reported that “…it was mostly the same men who preyed on young women.” In a 2016 report by Maureen Callahan at the New York Post (Link to archive) a former Bear Stearns’ employee reports that men at Bear Stearns were “getting bl*w jobs in front of staff – that happened all the time.” Claims that men at Bear were demanding sexual favors from female colleagues and getting away with it date all the way back to the 1980s. (Link to archive) As more allegations emerge daily into the sexual assault horrors of Jeffrey Epstein and his band of enablers, a profile is emerging that bears a striking resemblance to how Wall Street has allowed its highest-producing brokers to behave toward vulnerable young female employees for decades. In both situations, there are the enablers; in both situations, there is a failed justice system and powerful lawyers cutting deals; in both situations, there are hundreds of different females asserting the same type of claims over a long period of time with no governmental authority stopping the abuse; and in both situations, powerful men who were an important cog in Wall Street’s insatiable quest for profits were allowed to walk away from a multitude of credible sexual assault allegations. Jeffrey Epstein’s major divergence from the sexual assaults by Wall Street brokers’ is that he preyed on underage girls. It is notable, however, that many Wall Street firms hire young women just out of high school to be “trained” to work in their branch offices. The sexual grooming is not as overt as in the Jeffrey Epstein cases, where the young girls were hired to give a massage and then told, over time, the massage had to be administered by them naked; and then, after more time, upped to a full-scale sexual assault. But young women in these Wall Street offices are sent a clear message by their Human Resources departments that they need to “get along” with those big producing brokers who generate outsized profits for the firm. Walk into any of the Wall Street retail brokerage offices that dot the landscape in every major town and city across America and you will see glass-windowed offices filled with white male brokers and pretty, young female sales assistants (a/k/a client service associates) sitting in a low-wage, subservient position at a desk directly outside that office. Subservience to that broker is ingrained in the following ways: the sales assistant’s performance is officially evaluated by that broker and becomes a written, permanent part of her employment file; the broker, if he is a big producer for the firm, can have the sales assistant fired over any flimsy, trumped-up claim; and, importantly, most Wall Street firms pay these women low wages, leaving it to the broker they work for to give the woman a percentage of his commissions if he finds her “performance” to be to his liking. All that Wall Street would have to do to alter these sexual and power dynamics is to pay these women a good salary and take the broker’s additional compensation out of the equation. The fact that Wall Street doesn’t alter this dynamic suggests that the industry likes its hunting band to hone their skills on the vulnerable prey in the office as a form of target practice. Just as Epstein was able to keep his abuse hidden for decades by employing a roster of expensive lawyers who knew how to work the system, Wall Street has all of the largest law firms in America at its beck and call. These law firms have systematically convinced the U.S. Supreme Court and Appellate Courts around the country that Wall Street should be allowed to run its own private justice system; that it should be allowed to make its employees sign a waiver giving up their rights to access the nation’s courts and use Wall Street’s rigged kangaroo court system instead. Most Americans would agree that Wall Street is the most corrupt industry in America. And yet, the most corrupt industry is the only industry that universally requires both employees and customers to waive their rights to use the nation’s courts to settle claims and, instead, must use the Wall Street-created mandatory arbitration system which has none of the procedural protections of a court of law. What is hiding behind that rigged system of justice is akin to what happened in the Catholic Church where abusing priests were transferred from parish to parish and sexual assault claims were secretly settled with gag orders. At the hands of Wall Street and its private justice system, the media is deprived of a seat in an open courtroom; there are no publicly available court transcripts of the hearings; and the worst sexual assaults are settled quickly with a gag order on all parties. Invariably, the abusive broker keeps his job with no mark on his publicly available record about any sexual assault or sexual harassment settlement. The broker’s public record is maintained by Wall Street’s self-regulator, FINRA – the very same organization that runs the private justice system for Wall Street. In March of last year Lorena Alcantara filed a sexual harassment claim against Michael Ladge, a high-producing broker in the Beverly Hills office of Morgan Stanley. According to Alcantara’s complaint, “Ladge’s real purpose in hiring Alcantara—a beautiful young woman in her mid-twenties at the time—was to try to exploit his power with Alcantara, to subject her to demeaning and harassing behavior, to use her beauty to attract clients, and to pursue a sexual relationship with her.” Ladge had offered Alcantara a job when he met her working as a waitress and bartender at an L.A. Sports Club. (As one of the largest investment banks on Wall Street, one would think Morgan Stanley would do its own hiring of office personnel.) Alcantara’s complaint included a sworn statement from another assistant, who corroborated much of her account. According to a quick check at FINRA’s BrokerCheck this morning, Ladge is still employed at Morgan Stanley. Editor’s note:Still there on July 22, 2020. Alcantara filed her complaint in the California court system. It was, as usual, moved to Wall Street’s private justice system based on that mandatory arbitration agreement that is slipped into a stack of papers that new hires are requested to speedily sign as a non-negotiable condition of getting the job. There have been no media reports on what has happened to the case since it disappeared into the bowels of the arbitration system. In a saner age of American jurisprudence, these types of non-negotiable contracts were found by courts to be unenforceable and ruled to be contracts of adhesion, since they were offered on a take-it or leave-it basis by the corporation. The very concept of contract law is that both parties to the contract are able to negotiate the final terms. But there is little on Wall Street today that comports with a society based on well-reasoned law. Operating its own private justice system, where arbitrators even hear rape cases, Wall Street has been able to draw a no-law-zone around its coast-to-coast offices. In April of last year, Susan Antilla, in partnership with the Investigative Fund at the Nation Institute, looked at FINRA’s records going back 30 years. Her investigative team found that only 17 women had prevailed in all that time on their sexual harassment claims against Wall Street firms under this self-imposed private justice system. One of the cases Antilla reviewed involved an alleged rape against a young woman. Antilla reports (Archive) “In 2004, FINRA arbitrators considered a complaint (PDF) Southwest Securities, a Dallas firm, and three of its male brokers who worked at a Long Island branch. The branch sales manager, Kim Marie Vescova, alleged that one of them raped her in the office and threatened to kill her if she told anyone, according to the panel’s summary of her testimony. She also testified that the men at various times had bitten her on the buttocks, grabbed her breasts and asked for milk, and pulled down her pants. “The arbitrators said her testimony did not prove rape, though they told the firm to pay her $300,000 in compensatory and punitive damages, plus nearly $30,000 in back pay, and ordered one of the men, Michael Aspler, then the branch manager, to pay her $100,000 for physical assault, verbal abuse, negligent supervision, and infliction of emotional distress. Contacted recently, Vescova said that after the firm had threatened to tie her up in appeals court, she settled for ‘pennies on the dollar’ on those FINRA awards. (Hilltop Securities, parent of Southwest, did not respond to a query; Aspler declined to comment.) The arbitrators also ordered the two other men, Robert Mitchell (Link to PDF) Mark Kern (Link to PDF) — the broker Vescova accused of rape — to pay her $25,000 each for verbal abuse, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. But neither paid her. FINRA suspended both of their licenses five years later — not because of what they’d done to Vescova, but for failing to pay the judgment. (Link to PDF) Mitchell and Kern did not respond to queries sent to their last known emails and addresses. Finra asks brokers to report only investment-related customer disputes to be included on their records, so the findings against the men were not detailed in their BrokerCheck records.” Wall Street men preying on young women with impunity under its private justice system has been the bedrock of Wall Street for as long as anyone can remember. ABC’s 20/20 program brought together 17 women from coast-to-coast offices of the giant brokerage firm, Smith Barney, in 1998 to give first-hand accounts of their sexual assaults and extreme sexual harassment at a firm then headed by Jamie Dimon, now Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase. Jennifer Flood told the moderator, Deborah Roberts, how she was a new young hire in Smith Barney’s Hartford, Connecticut office when one of the brokers offered to drive her to lunch. Flood stated that “He said he wanted to pull my stockings down and sit me on his lap…I jumped out of the car and ran. He caught up to me, grabbed me by the back of the neck, threatened me that I couldn’t tell anybody because no one would believe me because I was this new sales assistant that means nothing, and I’m very expendable.” After Flood filed her complaint with management, the broker continued to work for the firm. (Editor’s note: I can’t find this episode, but I’m sure it exists.) Marianne Dalton, a new broker trainee in the Los Angeles branch of Smith Barney in 1995, also appeared on 20/20 and gave a first-hand account. The exchange went like this: Editor's note: I could not find this episode on YOUTUBE but it's probably there. Someone smarter than I can probably find it. Marianne Dalton: It was like working in a male locker room. It was really degrading comments about women. They were nothing but sperm vaults, sperm banks. And I listened to this every single day. Women were referred to as bitches and whores… Deborah Roberts: What would you say to someone who would say maybe it had nothing to do with the fact that you’re a woman, but just that you’re a new broker? Marianne Dalton: I would ask them how they would feel if they had their boss undress every single day at the desk – every single day at 12:45, day in and day out for months, right down to his genitals? (Dalton explained that despite there being a men’s room in eyeshot of her boss’s desk, he preferred to change into his gym clothes in front of her.) Deborah Roberts: It’s hard to imagine this could go on in a professional office and nobody would think that this was objectionable. Marianne Dalton: The bottom line at this firm is that they don’t want the assets to walk, so we’re going to do whatever it takes to make these senior people as happy as can be. The supervisor Dalton had complained about was still working for the firm at the time the 20/20 program aired. On the same program, Lisa Mays, an operations manager in the Walnut Creek, California branch of the predecessor firm to Smith Barney described how a top producing broker there, Stu Buttery, tried to rape her when she arrived at the office before other employees had arrived. Despite Mays’ formal complaints to management, Buttery continued to be allowed to work at the firm for the next 24 years. Robin Leopold had been a Vice President of Human Resources at Smith Barney when women in coast-to-coast offices were making desperate pleas for relief from this outrageous and illegal conduct – pleas that for the most part fell on deaf ears. According to her LinkedIn profile (dead link), Leopold is back working for Jamie Dimon as a Managing Director in Human Resources at JPMorgan Chase. The Smith Barney women organized themselves into a class action lawsuit and filed their claims in Federal Court in 1996, challenging the mandatory arbitration system as a violation of their civil rights. (See Editor’s note below.) Dimon, the New York Stock Exchange and the predecessor to FINRA, the NASD, were among the named defendants along with Smith Barney. The New York Stock Exchange and the NASD eventually dropped their own requirement that civil rights complaints had to go through the mandatory arbitration system. The big Wall Street banks’ response to that was to simply draft their own mandatory arbitration agreements that they, then and now, force all new hires to sign. Smith Barney’s initial response to the lawsuit was to call the women “disgruntled employees” and hire a top attorney at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, the same law firm that was hired more recently by Fox News parent, 21st Century Fox, to investigate the alleged sexual abuse of women by Roger Ailes. The Paul Weiss settlement in the Smith Barney case was assailed by civil rights and employment lawyers. It ushered all claims into its own private arbitration system and extinguished all claims against the male brokers – leaving them free to assault again. It was also revealed in the press that while the case was pending before Judge Constance Baker Motley, the Paul Weiss law firm made job offers to two of the Judge’s law clerks assigned to the case. The New York Post further revealed that the sexual harassment hotline that was ostensibly set up by Smith Barney to help women make complaints was a dud. The lead lawyer for Paul Weiss in the case, Mark Belnick, moved on to become General Counsel at Tyco International and was indicted for grand larceny and securities fraud. (Archived article) He was acquitted at trial but only after he had inked a retention agreement (Archived) that guaranteed him a payment of at least $10.6 million should he commit a felony and be fired before October 2003. Any disputes arising out of the retention agreement matter were to be handled in arbitration rather than a court of law. The National Organization for Women of New York State was so appalled by the terms of the Smith Barney settlement that its President, Lois Shapiro-Canter, an attorney, filed an Amicus brief with the court asking the Judge to reject the settlement. Shapiro-Canter wrote on behalf of NOW-NYS:
“Closed door proceedings and arbiters of justice chosen in part by Defendant Employer confers the appearance of impropriety and does not reflect the open door access to the judiciary of Title VII and other civil rights laws. If in fact Defendant Employer intends in good faith to proceed wholeheartedly with the diversity plans outlined in the agreement, why does it need a mandatory arbitration process a/k/a mandatory alternative dispute resolution system which denies women and minorities their constitutional right to access the courts to ensure freedom from discrimination and sexual harassment?”
When Epstein’s powerful lawyers cut his plea deal with federal prosecutors in 2008, the Palm Beach police had credible evidence that Epstein had sexually assaulted dozens of underage girls at his home in Palm Beach. The police had even asked the FBI to investigate. But the Federal government let Epstein off with a single count of soliciting sex from a minor and one count of soliciting prostitution from an adult. His 13 months of jail time consisted of being ferried by his private driver and limo to an office where he spent 12 hours a day on a so-called work release program. According to the New York Times, (archive link)
“When Jeffrey Epstein was serving time in Florida for soliciting prostitution from a minor, he got a surprising visitor: James E. Staley (link to Wikipedia), a top JPMorgan Chase executive and one of the highest-ranking figures on Wall Street.” Staley wanted to keep his relationship with Epstein, according to the Times, because “Epstein had funneled dozens of wealthy clients to Mr. Staley and his bank.”
This is precisely the same motive that keeps the big producing brokers safe on Wall Street. Editor’s Note: Pam Martens, the co-author of the above article and Editor of Wall Street On Parade, worked for two major Wall Street firms for 21 years. During that time, from 1996 through 2001, Martens challenged Wall Street’s mandatory arbitration system and the sexual assaults and sexual harassment of women facilitated under that system in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and at the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in a case titled Martens v Smith Barney in which she originally served as lead plaintiff. The settlement fashioned by plaintiffs’ attorneys and Paul Weiss was deemed so conflicted by Martens that she withdrew from the settlement and never profited from the settlement or any subsequent payment from the parties. Her original co-plaintiff, Judy Mione, joined her in withdrawing from the settlement for the same reasons. Martens also appeared in the ABC 20/20 program referenced above.
2020.07.17 23:38 TessaBissolliA close look at the story. Part 23: Geographic clusters
The first twenty parts of the series focused on how the narrative of the Blacklist crumbles on close examination, and we then recapped most of what we had examined. Now we have started to look at the story that emerges behind the thin, crumbling facade. We started by questioning exactly what did Katarina do for the KGB, the cabal, and IF she really was a CIA officer, as it seems, what did she do for them. But we should also look for the small, subtle elements that are consistent, that weave a backdrop for the story behind the charade. And no better place to start, than the maps, the geographic clusters. Places that are used over and over, creating links between characters. For those who insist the answer is that the creator or show runner or some writers are from there, that answers the issue of why the place, not why cluster those characters around that place. Like the issue of the shared Scott name. It was the maiden name of JB's mother in law, which tells us why Scott and not Jennings, but not WHY two characters share a middle name.
The Chicago cluster: Tom's foster parents (The Phelps), Kate, Kate's sister, Katarina's mother, Cooper.
The Midwest cluster (Chicago is separate): Red, Sam, Kate, Ressler.
The New York cluster: Dom, Katarina's mother, Katarina, Howard & Susan Hargrave; Tom Keen, and Jennifer.
The DC greater area cluster: Red, Carla, Jennifer and Raymond Reddington, Ilya, Garvey.
The Philadelphia cluster: Carla Reddington, Jennifer Reddington, Katarina, Garvey.
The Beach cluster: Cape May, Ocean City & Rehoboth Beach: the Reddingtons, the Hargraves and Katarina.
Sure it IS a Hitchcock nod. But the fact is, Kate's is tied to Chicago from the very beginning, and it continues in Requiem when Kate tells Katarina over the phone where her sister lives:
Masha can't stay in a hotel that long. She needs a home. I can take her to my sister in Chicago.
A sister that apparently is later on living in Wisconsin, when she supposedly enters WITSEC for providing evidence against a Russian mobster. Another link between Russians and Kate's family:
ANNIE TO KATE: So what's next for you? You gonna find somemore Russians to live with?
ABOUT KATE'S SISTER: But as fate would have it, her neighbor, Alexei Lagunov the avtoritet of aRussianbratva, felt given the late hour and windchill, he and his boyeviks could move a body from his basement to the trunk of an associate's car without being observed.
that seems to indicate that Kate's family was Russian, or had Russian (or USSR) ties. And considering she, an American was happy to care for the baby of a KGB asset so she could go spy on America, chances are, she was also a soviet symphatizer, or as u/jay00212 calls her, Kap the Commie. I am still intrigued by the bizarre scenes of Kate's mother funeral. Something is beyond strange: 1966 Another character with ties to Chicago is Katarina's mother, Lena Volkova AKA Virginia Lopatin King
Name's Virginia Lopatin. Married Tim King in '98. Lives in Chicago with a dog and a cat, three credit cards, and a subscription to Foreign Affairs.
I met Virginia in 1998. The love of my life. I-I knew it the moment I laid eyes on her. She told me she was from Saint Petersburg, uh, that she'd split with her husband in her 40s, came to America to start over, and spent the rest of her life here.
The third character with ties to Chicago is Tom Keen, who believed his name was Jacob Phelps, and whose terrible foster parents, the Phelps, lived in Chicago:
You stole the purse, Jacob. Like the credit cards and the Pontiac.... I'm surprised you haven't stolen more, considering the situation with your foster home.
the fake brother tells Liz:
I don't know his real name. He's got a brother in Chicago. I've heard him talk about a woman, Niki.
and as we see in Tom's social services report, he stole a car there to drive to NYC where he is picked up by the Major at about 14 years old:
I've been running since I was 14. It's all I've known.
Tom's social service records indicate his foster parents lived in Chicago The most interesting aspect of it, occurs between New York and Chicago, for we have some connecting aspects, including in the timeline between Katarina's mother and Tom: Tom's parents live in New York, where Halcyon's headquarters are. He, even without remembering anything from his childhood before been taken at age 3 (almost 4) steels a car at about age 14 and drives to New York, as if something in his mind pulled him back there. The Major picks him up there, and trains him to be a covert agent. Tom was taken from Ocean City, but it is unclear if that is ocean City in New Jersey or in Delaware. The Major picks him up circa 1998/1999 at about age 14. While Katarina's mother, who started up in New York in 1991, where she boards a ferry and assumes a new identity, Virginia Lopatin, and she ends up in Chicago, where she meets and marries Ted King in 1998. but is the timing which is quite interesting.
in 1988/89 Tom is kidnapped from their summer home in Ocean City, but the Hargraves lived in NY. We know he ends up with a bad foster family, the "Phelps", who are in Chicago.
In 1991, Kate's sister was living in Chicago.
In 1998 Katarina's mother meets and marries Ted King in Chicago
In 1998/99 Tom is picked up by the Major in NYC, after stealing a car in Chicago and driving to NYC.
in 2013 Kate's phone exchange is in Chicago.
at unspecified time, Kate's sister, who Red says was called Maureen Rowan (at least then), was living in Wisconsin.
there is some interstigigmovements in season 7 we learn that Cooper was born in Chicago. I do not think it means anything, for the paths of Cooper and Red cross until much later in life, but it works to keep the place in mind, as do the multiple mentions of the city:
This paint-- what color is it? LIZ: It's called "Chicago Skyline.”
"How was Chicago?Oh, God, you know. All these conferences are such a waste of time.
So it'll beone Chicago double do*, hold the pickles, and one, uh The, uh, Brooklyn Baconeer with cheese. Oh, and throw in some of those house-made sea-salt chips.*
25 years inChicagoparking on the street, and my car gets taken in Monte Carlo.
You want me to make a dinner reservation for you? -In Chicago*?*
if you're looking for a common denominator among the victims, good luck. A married couple in Bethesda, an insurance executive outsideChicago*, a mother and son burned to death in an apartment fire in Brooklyn.*
The triplets they're not the only ones who've been taken.... I went back into the database and found this kids taken from Miami,Chicago*, Dallas*.
In 1982, seven peopleinChicagowere killed by an over-the-counter drug laced with potassium cyanide.
You know, when I was 15, I had a summer job installing carpets for Albert Kodagolian on Lake Charlevoix.
I spent two summers operating the Whack-the-Cats at the Emmet County Fair.
Anyone asks, you're my girlfriend from Ann Arbor.
You really should try Ginny's Cheeseburger Chowder. The ground chuck and spices, the melted cheese. I highly recommend it for the inaugural balls.
You've just missed the Ludeman family. I must've thrown quarters for that little girl to fetch for over two hours. Soda pop?
You know, BJ Simpson and I started a lawn-mowing business in the summer of '72-- bagging, hedging, the whole ball of wax. One day, I'm out rototilling Pat Hunt's garden. I go in for a bottle of pop-- must have been 110-- and there's BJ in the sunken living room, shoes off, feet up on the couch, eating a fried-bologna sandwich, watching Mike Douglas. Mike Douglas! Can you imagine? I quit that day.
Have you ever had deep-fried butter? Clogs more arteries than a car accident during rush hour, and, yet, people out here can't get enough of it.
Sacrifice the bishop. ReykjavÃk, '72. God, I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was in Steven Bash's rec room down in the basement, eating fried egg and bologna sandwich when he did it.
Sam is the other character that since we meet him, back in 1991 was residing in Nebraska. Red says he has known Sam for most of his life. That is consistent with a childhood in the Midwest for Red, and a life there for Sam.
I've been friends with Sam for all of yours and most of my life.
and even what Katarina seems to have told Kate.
You have to leave Masha with someone unconnected, who I can trust. I want you to get in touch with Sam Milhoan. He's listed. Kearney, Nebraska.
She told me that you are the only person who knew both her and Raymond, the only one they both trusted.
The question is how did Katarina meet Sam? I can see Sam having lived in other places in the Midwest. But how was his name not connected to anyone, so that all these years nobody could find Liz? It has to be in Red and/or Katarina's real identities. Yet another character in that cluster is Kathryn Nemec, who took the name Kate after 1991, and the surname Kaplan after Annie was killed. Kathryn Nemec has deep ties to the midwest:
Kathryn Nemec is missing? Yeah, she disappeared in 1991, just dropped off the grid. Lived at a few addressesin the Midwest in her 30s.Worked at an exclusive domestic staffing agency, but then one day she's just gone. - And there is no more record
If Kate was born as her fake ID suggest in 1953, she would have been in her 30s in the early 1980s, and she was hired by Katarina when Liz was near a year old, so sometime in late 1986 to late 1987, when she worked in Canada, where all the memories we saw took place until Liz was kidnapped in the Autumn of 1990. It is possible Kate was older than that, but still not for much. She would have been working in the Midwest in the late 1970s to 1986/87 when she went to Canada. Kate sister, If that story by Red is true, moved from Chicago, where she was in 1991 to Wisconsin.
Years ago, a Wisconsin housewife named Maureen Rowan was outside in the wee hours with the family dog, Dodger. It was absolutely frigid. No one in their right mind would've been out in that kind of bitter cold, and if not for Dodger's aging bladder, I imagine Maureen would have been fast asleep. But as fate would have it, her neighbor, Alexei Lagunov the avtoritet of a Russian bratva, felt given the late hour and windchill, he and his boyeviks could move a body from his basement to the trunk of an associate's car without being observed. They didn't count on Dodger's call to nature. So Maureen had a choice between remaining silent or doing the right thing. She chose to testify. And while she helped to bring Alexei Lagunov to justice, she also forfeited the rest of her life in doing so. She's on that list. LIZ: Who is she to you? Maureen Rowan is Kate's sister-- uh, Mr. Kaplan's sister. I didn't need to find her. I just needed to make sure no one else can.
Outside of the mythology cluster, we have Donald Ressler, whose childhood was in Detroit:
Well, that's exactly what Tommy Markin used to tell my dad. They were partners-- Detroit PD.
we got to visit that part of Ressler's life in Brothers.
The New York cluster
https://preview.redd.it/1w0bk0wlchb51.png?width=1004&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8224b12bb5e41f6b71e746a3ee7a8343b918579 the next cluster is in New York, where we have the Hargraves, whose company Halcyon Aegis is located in NYC. They go to a Summer Beach house in Ocean City, but is uncertain if that is the one in Delaware, or the one in New Jersey. The letter instructing Mrs Game to have her convicted killer son confess to the murder of Christopher Hargrave AKA Tom Keen, which stopped the official investigation into his disappearance came from a PO box in New York with 100,000 in cash:
Letter come special delivery. Return address was a PO box in New York. $100,000 if Richard said he did something he didn't.
Tom, at about age 14, stole a car in Chicago and drove to NY. There, the Major picked him up. Dom's house with the blue door is in upstate NY, near Wilmington, NY, where Katarina supposedly got a PO box under the name Tracey Ivers as a communication set-up. A drawing of a house with a blue door is among Katarina's childhood things, suggesting Dom had this house since Katarina was a child.
Post Office box. Upstate New York.
This is Jake Li over at the Postbox Elite in Wilmington. Got a message the FBI was interested in some security footage?
We found him [Dom].... A farmhouse a few hours north.
You're gonna take the ferry to New London, and then, you'll take the bus to Boston.
Red said he invested money in a play NYC in 1991:
I was completely swept up in the idealism of the theatre owner-- a pipe-smoking cream puff of a German named Gerta. She read "Mother Courage" to me aloud-- the whole play in one sitting. A brilliant exploration of the politics of war and those who profit from it. Sadly, it was 1991, and audiences were going in droves to see "Cats." Gerta lost every penny of my investment, but she remains grateful to this day. Her theater is ours as long as we need it.
Jennifer told Liz when she left, she was going to a friend in Long Island. Truth or lie?
I've got a friend with a place on Long Island. It's peaceful there this time of year. I could use peaceful.
and finally, the cabin where Red sends Emma Knightley is in Vermont, but on Lake Camplain, which straddles New York and Vermont, close to Wilmington.
And by Thursday,we were in Philadelphia, fending for ourselves.
So, Garvey must have also had been assigned to Philadelphia at the time, a young US Marshal assigned to the case of Carla and Jennifer Reddington. It is unclear how he made them disappear, if he just did that, or if there was an elaborate fake death or crime scene created, as he did for Sutton Ross. But the really interesting thing comes from the train station Katarina has Ilya meet her according to Rassvet: 30th street station. There is only one train station of that name, in Philadelphia, which likely means the motel Katarina was staying was also near Philadelphia, and likely the shelter she was in in February of 1991, if we are to believe the newscast, was in the general area as well. https://preview.redd.it/fnwlho58qgb51.png?width=1177&format=png&auto=webp&s=73b7c77a380ded466b2a3559895ddcceb0f04c76 And if that shelter stay was in February of 1991, before the fake drowning in March/April 1991,then we have a possible point of contact between the two women: They would have been in Philadelphia about the same time. The motel If Katarina fabricated the treason evidence, but Carla is who went into Witness Protection, then either they are the same woman, or they met after Carla was placed in Protective Custody, when she reported her husband missing on December 27, 1990. Because after this, how could she have known about evidence that did not exist until Katarina made it? a women's shelter that is likely to have been in the Philadelphia area A shelter for women in Philadelphia seems the place to meet, if they are not the same woman, because Carla Reddington claimed to be terrified of her husband who was a threat to her and her daughter, while we know Katarina seems to have been in one of those, and had bruises to make it credible she was scared of someone. there have been numerous mentions of Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia in particular. Not that they are necessarily directly connected, but they keep the location fresh in our minds:
It's a halfway house for ex-cons in Philadelphia. They use the lead to make religious jewelry.
They triggered the CDC's transfer protocol. They won't keep Class A substances in a facility using only backup generators for more than 72 hours. They're moving the samples to a secure satellite lab outside Philadelphia.
Reddington says The Architect is in Philadelphia recruiting hackers at an underground gathering - called Black Mass 13.
Kaplan's target was Ressler.... I thought he was in Philadelphia. He was, that's why he was abducted - and pumped full of drugs.
Waybur spent his entire career hearing cases in the City of Brenford, and before Flynn moved to Philadelphia, he was the general counsel of the Atria Corporation, the chemical company that poisoned Brenford
So, I've been thinking about The Angel of Death and trying to figure out why a digital nomad who never stops moving would stop in one place for nearly three months. The answer? His kidney. You think this has to do with his dialysis treatments? Not the treatments, the cure.... I pulled the rolls of every kidney transplant recipient in Philadelphia in 2010. And after removing the patients - that were the wrong age, sex, or race, I was able to narrow it down to a list of 14 men, one of which is this guy... Cameron Morella....He's he right age, and before 2010, - he was non-existent.... - Because he was someone else.
The De La Cruz was headed to Philadelphia. The route from southern waters would take it right past what used to be known as Hell's Gate, an area known to be frequented by pirates.
The Seawall Travel Agency, based out of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was a storefront used by Knobbs and Dunning to facilitate their murder-for-hire business.
The missing penny was last sold in 1984, and, according to the bill of sale, the man who bought it passed away two years ago. ... But did he have it when he died? Yes, and it was included in an extensive art collection that he left to the University of Pennsylvania.
Miss Seivers, your husband's body was found almost 250 miles away. Can you think of any reason at all why he'd be so far from home? I don't know. He didn't like to travel. - Did he have friends in Pennsylvania?
I thought you'd want a full stomach before our trip.... The Lodge at Glenforest. Rural Pennsylvania. Three days, two nights. Our own cabin in the woods. Dinners in the main lodge, crackling fires.
Missing? Henry isn't missing. He called a few hours ago from Pennsylvania.
Mark Hastings, US Attorney from Maryland. 12 years ago he indicted the head of the Reynoso cartel. A week later, he went missing.... two days ago, he was found wandering on a road in Pennsylvania.
He's looking for someone who lived in D.C. before 1990....Turns out Lord Baltimore's not looking for Mr. Reddington.
the cabin where Red takes Naomi after he ransoms her back from Berlin is in rural Maryland:
People that Frank and Naomi might have reached out to. There's a woman Monica Lyons. She got six calls today, all unanswered. All came from a pay phone at a gas station in rural Maryland. Only a handful of homes in that area.
LIZ: What is this place? RED: Something of a hideaway. It used to be home to one of the finest American writers who ever lived – Fredrick Hemstead.
A number of characters are also tied to DC: Alan Fitch, Peter Kotsiopolpus, Diane Fowler, tc. Of course the DC greater area is featured quite often, as is the location of the task force, so is not remarkable. What is remarkable are the specific two mentions of Takoma Park, which kept the locale fresh in our minds:
Are you familiar with Chad Henning? - Name sounds familiar. It should. His body was found hanging from a tree this morning in Takoma Park.
But we were able to trace Sinclair's rig to a warehouse in Takoma Park. We believe it was a staging area, but everything has been cleaned out.
The beach area cluster: Cape May, Ocean City & Rehoboth Beach
My perfect baby boy. He loved the water. Found that necklace in a trinket shop during a trip to Ocean City. We had rented a house that summer, spent the whole week on the beach building sand castles with drawbridges and moats. That night, Howard and I had a big fight. Too much to drink. Next morning, Christopher was gone
30 years ago, you were the lead detective in the disappearance of a boy who vanished from a rental home in Ocean City. His name was Christopher Hargrave.
What is interesting to me is how close those places are. In particular how close Cape May and Rehoboth Beach are. Right across a narrow bay. And how close to Philadelphia they are. If I were to stage a fake death in the water, Cape May might be handy, especially with a boat moored just off sight, crossing the bay to Rehoboth Beach. A wetsuit worn under the turtleneck. But in the newspaper we see about the fire in Rehoboth Beach, there seems to be something hidden about the ownership of the house. Why was that? To hide the real name of the family? The Reddingtons, or a trust to obfuscate their real identity? whose house it was that burned was not easy to ascertain. <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>> see the entire series:
Part 1: the bizarre abduction of "Masha Rostova" as well as the curious idea that she was a rumor.
Part 4 : the line that gives a clue that the "real Raymond Reddington (RR)" was a made up identity, that sprang alive on the Naval Academy.
Part 3 : was "Katarina Rostova" a created identity, inhabited by many women?
Part 2: I am a traitor./ I am not a traitor: her curious contradiction exposes interesting facts about Dom.
Part 10: evidence that we have one or two unseen players since the bones were dug out by Kate, because of two undeniable facts: someone other than Red and his associates beat up Dennison ("X") and someone other than Garvey and his associates severed Pete's fingers ("Y").
Part 11: did Kate's plan extended way past her suicide? Did she had a death switch for Dennison? Did she rope Nik yet another time, this time fatally?
Part 12: What did Pete do, and the strange sequence of events surrounding the bones once Pete disappeared.
Part 13: What was Jennifer really doing, among the lies and omission
Part 14: Liz's maternal grandparents, the man who hid in the woods and the woman who happily married Ted King.
Part 15: examines the curious blond Katarina, or Fakerina, a formidable foe
2020.07.14 21:57 GhostfacexProdigySOAC - The next best thing besides a SPAC ESG ETF
The recent growth in EV market, solar stocks, renewable energy, Tesla, theJuneteenth stock’sand thegreen energy market (including SPACs - NKLA SHLL SPAQ) are but a few of the benefiters of this “movement” to date. It’s not just daytrading millennials (beckys/RH) who love this stuff but hedge funds are also benefiting from this trend (that is here to stay). It might be a personal belief of mine coupled with my passion for environmentalism but market trends do not lie (although can pop) – and if I can profit from this, why not? SPAQSHLLSOACFMCIBMRGHCCHNKLA BLNK DGLY SOLO EVSI NIO UONE BYFC FMCI BYND RUN WKHS TSLASHRM.. - a few quick/recent examples of companies with strong ESG verticals absolutely crushing the market. I watched the rise of DKNG (Atlanta fan haha) and NKLA (no product lol) but took a pass because I didn’tfully understandSPACs at the time - don’t be that guy.. We believe our management team’s experience allows us to evaluate targets in industries such as manufacturing (including auto, building materials), chemicals, services (including waste, environmental, construction), logistics (including transportation, distribution), technology (hardware, software, devices), agriculture (including biofuels) and energy (with focus on renewable generation, utility services, energy efficiency/management), among others. Furthermore, our target universe could include companies undergoing a transition to increase their environmental sustainability profiles, reflecting an opportunity to bring environmentally sustainable practices to companies that may not have historically been focused on environmental sustainability. We believe there is a wide array of companies undergoing this “brown-to-green” transition in our target universe. I'm in HCAC and SPAQ at the moment but this seems to be the next short term play after, long term for me would be IPOC or PSTH. I'm betting on the leadership. The bad: no real forward purchase or PIPE investors or any external funding, which is okay. could indicate that the team is confident in their strategy without the need for additional funding ($400 mil in their own investment) My thought process: if TWNK came out in this current SPAC market, would we see a hype? 1000% I think they can choose slightly above average known consumer targets and we'll see strong price action. Welcome to Lost in the Sauce, keeping you caught up on political and legal news that often gets buried in distractions and theater… or a global health crisis. I might do a coronavirus-centric post tomorrow or Wednesday, couldn’t fit it here. Will have to do it this weekend or next week, sorry. Working on an article for FN. Housekeeping:
HOW TO SUPPORT: I know we are all facing unprecedented financial hardships right now. If you are in the position to support my work, I have a patreon, venmo, and a paypal set up. No pressure though, I will keep posting these pieces publicly no matter what - paywalls suck.

Statues over people
Over the past week, we’ve seen the crystallization of Trump’s apparent re-election strategy: protect statues at all costs. During his two public speeches (clip 1 (clip 2), Trump focused on confederate monuments and “cancel culture” while the nation grapples with a record-breaking number of coronavirus cases and a struggling economy. Trump promised to veto this year’s annual defense bill if an amendment is included that would require the Pentagon to change the names of bases named for Confederate military leaders… Sen. Elizabeth Warren sponsored the amendment that would change the names of 10 bases named after Confederate generals as well as remove Confederate likenesses, symbols, and paraphernalia from defense facilities nationwide within three years.
The amendment is unlikely to be removed, however, as it passed the Republican-led Senate Armed Services Committee with bipartisan support. This means that it would require 60 votes on the Senate floor to get rid of it.
Warren: “The decision to remove the names of Confederate generals who took up arms against the United States in defense of slavery was a bipartisan decision that came out of the committee, and it’s going to stay in the defense budget. The president can do what he wants, but it stays.”
Trump signed an executive order on June 26 directing the Department of Justice to “prosecute to the fullest extent permitted under Federal law” people who damage federal monuments. He took to Twitter to announce the order: “Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!” Damaging federal property can be punished by up to 10 years in prison. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) plans to introduce legislation withholding federal funding for states and cities that don't adequately protect statues and monuments. Trump’s executive order included a provision to do the same, but the White House is not in a position to enforce such a clause. The Department of Homeland Security announced a new task force to protect "American monuments, memorials and statues." DHS said it was launching rapid deployment teams to federal monuments over the July 4th weekend. "DHS should not be prioritizing the protection of property over the wellbeing of Black and Brown communities,” the ACLU responded.
Just want to point out: The federal government apparently has the resources to spare to guard monuments but not to conduct thorough contact tracing and isolation.
During Trump’s Mount Rushmore speech, he announced an executive order establishing a "national garden” for statues of “American heroes” (video). The choice in statues proves that the idea is meant as a divisive wedge issue. Indeed, there is already a “Hall of Fame for Great Americans” in existence in the Bronx.
Trump’s nominee to be ambassador to Norway was involved in the creation of a racist campaign flyer in the 1990s and failed to disclose subsequent legal action associated with it. Mark Burkhalter helped create a flier that distorted the features of a black politician in Georgia, darkened his features, gave him a large afro, and prompted a libel suit.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member Robert Menendez is urging the White House to withdraw Burkhalter’s nomination: "During this time of national trauma and reckoning over violence and racist actions against African-Americans, however, it is unthinkable to nominate for a position of public trust an individual who participated in such a despicable, racist scheme," Menendez wrote in a letter.
Trump appointee Michael Pack fired the top officials of the USAGM’s internet freedom group. In less than a decade, the Open Technology Fund has quietly become integral to the world’s repressed communities. Over two billion people in 60 countries rely on tools developed and supported by the fund, like Signal and Tor, to connect to the internet securely and send encrypted messages in authoritarian societies. The White House directed Defense Department officials to hire former National Security Council staffer Rich Higgins, who was fired for circulating a conspiratorial memo and known for Islamophobic tweets… The move is part of an aggressive push to staff the Pentagon with figures loyal to Trump and with connections to Michael Flynn. White House is conducting “loyalty test” interviews with political appointees at the Pentagon. The interviews will be conducted by two subordinates of John McEntee, Trump’s former body man who now runs the personnel office: John Troup Hemenway, an undergraduate student, and Jordan Hayley, who graduated from university last month. House Democrats call for firing of USAID political appointee with history of Islamophobic statements… Religious freedom adviser Mark Kevin Lloyd shared a Facebook post calling Islam “a barbaric cult” and accused Obama of being connected with the Muslim Brotherhood. Reps. Joaquin Castro and Ilhan Omar: “He does not represent the values of our country, and he should not be in a position to betray our nation’s constitutional promise of religious freedom.” A second USAID Trump appointee is under fire for hate-filled rhetoric, including anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTQ comments. Merritt Corrigan, the recently appointed deputy White House liaison at USAID, said “women shouldn’t be in office” and urged followers to “speak out now about the transsexual agenda before it becomes normalized."
Coming up this morning: More Supreme Court opinions to be released at 10 am (ET). There are eight cases that have yet to be ruled on, including those involving Trump’s finances. The Supreme Court agreed Thursday to hear arguments this fall about Mueller’s grand jury evidence, postponing the House Judiciary Committee’s potential access to the material until after the election. SCOTUS could have declined the hear the case, preserving the lower court ruling granting the committee access. Last week, SCOTUS struck down a Louisiana law that required abortion providers to have admitting privileges at local hospitals. The ruling should be seen only as a momentary win, as Chief Justice Roberts didn’t rule on the merits of a constitutionally protected right to abortion—rather he deferred to the power of the court itself, leaving the door open for future challenges.
The Supreme Court also gave Indiana a second chance to revive two restrictive abortion laws - one imposing an ultrasound requirement and the other expanding parental notification when minors seek abortions - by throwing out a lower court's rulings to block them.

More on Roberts: “[H]e is moving the ball steadily down the constitutional field, toward the conservative end zone. Of the dozen 5-to-4 cases decided by the Supreme Court this term, Roberts is the only justice to have been in the majority each time. He sided with the liberals just twice.”
The Supreme Court ruled that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is constitutionally valid but the director can be removed by the president at will. The outcome is a mixed bag, but Elizabeth Warren - creator of the agency - highlighted the fact that the conservative court ruled “the CFPB is here to stay.” Furthermore, if Biden wins in November, the decision allows him to fire Trump’s director before her term would have ended. The Supreme Court declined to take up the case of federal death row prisoners who had challenged the government’s lethal injection protocol, paving the way for the Trump administration to carry out the first executions at the federal level in nearly two decades.
The Supreme Court ruled that states must allow religious schools to participate in programs that provide scholarships to students attending private schools, a decision that opened the door to more public funding of religious education.
The upshot: Taxpayers in most of the country will soon start funding overtly religious education—including the indoctrination of children into a faith that might clash with their own conscience. For example, multiple schools that participate in Montana’s scholarship program inculcate students with a virulent anti-LGBTQ ideology that compares homosexuality to bestiality and incest…
A New York appellate court lifted the temporary restraining order against Simon & Schuster, allowing the publisher to continue printing and distributing Mary Trump’s book. The next hearing regarding the restraining order against Mary herself is scheduled for this Friday. UPDATE: "Due to high demand and extraordinary interest in this book, Too Much and Never Enough by Mary L. Trump will now be published on July 14, 2020," Simon & Schuster says. The previous publishing date was July 28. In court filings, Mary Trump argues that the confidentiality agreement she signed 19 years ago was an unenforceable fraud. Her lawyers state that when she signed the NDA, she believed the asset amounts in it were accurate but learned they were bogus from a New York Times expose. Essentially, Mary says the president and his siblings of engaging in systematic fraud by devaluing assets.
“The Times found that the Trump family had engineered ‘friendly’ appraisals for Beach Haven and Shore Haven Apartments—two of the largest ‘crown jewels’ of Fred Trump’s empire—that were significantly and deliberately undervalued to avoid a variety of tax payments,” the memo stated. “Those undervalued appraisals, part of the Trump tax avoidance scheme, were relied upon in the Settlement Agreement—which Ms. Trump has testified she would not have signed if she had known about the fraudulent appraisals.”

Health secretary Alex Azar focuses trips on swing states needed by Trump… Azar’s travel priorities appear to be related to politics, not the states fighting the worst outbreaks, according to Obama-era officials. Last year, the Republican National Convention began cutting checks to a former producer of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice who was accused of having, as one contestant put it, “all the dirt” on Donald Trump. The RNC’s disbursements to Labella’s firm appear to be the first payments ever made by a federal political committee to either Labella personally or his company. But a RNC spokesperson described his role for the convention as that of a standard event producer. Trump is planning on holding a $580,600-per-couple campaign fundraiser in Broward County this week. Last month, Trump resumed in-person fundraising with two events, including a June 11 gathering in Dallas that cost $580,600 per couple. The campaign said it raised more than $10 million through that event. A t-shirt for sale on Trump’s official campaign website displays an “america First” logo with a striking similarity to the Nazis' Iron Eagle symbol (comparison). A little over two weeks ago, Facebook removed numerous Trump campaign posts and ads featuring an upside down red triangle symbol once used by Nazis to identify political opponents.
Let’s not forget that a little over a week ago, Trump retweeted a video that included a Trump supporter shouting “white power.” The president commented that his supporters in the video are “great people.” Staffers tried for three hours to reach Trump to get permission to delete the tweet, but Trump was on the golf course.
Speaking of Trump and golfing, this weekend Trump spent his 365th day as president on one of his own properties. In fact, on the day the U.S. set a daily global record for the coronavirus pandemic - surpassing 55,000 new cases - Trump was golfing. The Supreme Court blocked a trial judge’s order that would have made it easier for voters in three Alabama counties to use absentee ballots in this month’s primary runoff election. State officials had asked the court to block a lower court’s order that eased photo ID and witness requirements for absentee voting during the pandemic. The Supreme Court declined to fast-track a bid by Texas Democrats to decide whether all Texas voters can vote by mail during the coronavirus pandemic… Texas law allows voters to mail in their ballots only if they are 65 or older, confined in jail, will be out of the county during the election period, or cite a disability or illness. A federal appeals court halted the voting registration of thousands of Florida felons who cannot pay fines or fees, just weeks after a lower court threw out the state law mandating payment of all legal financial obligations before voting. The 11th Circuit decision granted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ request to suspend voter registration until the full court hears the case.
Reminder: Late last year, the Senate confirmed Judge Barbara Lagoa to the 11th Circuit, flipping the court to majority GOP appointees.
A federal appeals court in Wisconsin has reaffirmed voting restrictions favored by Republicans, limiting early voting to 2 weeks before an election and barring voters from receiving ballots via email or fax. In some good news, the Atlanta Hawks is going to turn its arena into the largest polling site in state history. Hundreds of Hawks employees and arena staff will be trained as election workers at the 700,000-square-foot venue, which hosts more than 16,000 spectators for basketball games and 21,000 for concerts. The team says parking will be free for voters and more than 1,500 spaces will be made available.
ICE unlawfully jails unaccompanied migrant children once they turn 18, judge rules… Many of ICE’s largest field offices “nearly automatically” send minors to adult jails, even when in extreme cases their parents in the United States or other sponsors would take them, the judge wrote. The week before last, a federal judge ordered the release of children held with their parents in U.S. immigration jails and denounced the Trump administration’s prolonged detention of families during the coronavirus pandemic.
Prior to the ruling, it was reported that eleven immigrants held inside a detention facility for families in Texas have tested positive for COVID-19

A government watchdog agency responsible for overseeing the conditions that federal agencies hold immigrants in said it will not be visiting facilitiesbecause of the coronavirus, which observers worry will diminish independent inspections. 'Suddenly they started gassing us': Cuban migrants tell of shocking attack at Ice prison… Refugees say protest against risk of Covid-19 was violently suppressed at New Mexico facility run by private firm CoreCivic. A federal judge overturned a Trump border rule requiring immigrants to first claim asylum in another country… Trump-appointee Judge Timothy J. Kelly of Washington, D.C. ruled that the administration’s rule violated the Immigration and Nationality Act. The Trump administration is preparing broad new immigration restrictions that would deny humanitarian refuge to anyone from a country with a disease outbreak, deeming those asylum seekers to be a danger to public safety.
Meanwhile, travelers from the U.S. are banned from entering countries in Europe, must quarantine when visiting England, and will have to pass through health checkpoints to visit Sonora (the Mexican state that borders Arizona).
The US agency that oversees and administers key facets of the immigration system, including the processing of citizenship, green cards, and asylum applications is about to come to a near halt. If Congress does not provide US Citizenship and Immigration Services with emergency funding before Aug. 3, the employees, who make up more than 60% of all staffers, will be furloughed. Border wall built by Trump’s hand-picked contractor is in danger of falling into the Rio Grande… Trump supporters funded the private border wall on the banks of the Rio Grande, helping the builder secure $1.7 billion in federal contracts. Last December, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., called for the Pentagon’s inspector general to review Fisher’s first $400 million fence contract, awarded in December over concerns of “inappropriate influence.” The audit is ongoing. Fun fact: All but 3 of the 216 miles of border wall constructed by the Trump administration are essentially much larger replacements of existing, dilapidated fences or vehicle barriers
Pro-pipeline letters by key legislators, including North Dakota’s governor, were actually ghostwritten by a fossil fuel company
The Fed Is Bailing Out Polluters While Cities Struggle: Fossil fuel interests have readier access to stimulus money than many local governments.
Trump's trade war hurt Maine's lobster industry. He falsely blames Obama: The president has moved to bail out the state's all-important seafood industry. But his policies caused the problem.
White House directs Agriculture Department to extend farmer bailout money to lobster industry
Trump’s EPA balks at a chance to save black lives: Soot sickens and kills people of color disproportionately. The EPA has decided to not tighten standards that would protect them and others.
A Democratic U.S. senator says he has written to Attorney General William Barr outlining his concerns about potential “political interference” by the Trump administration in an investigation of a private espionage firm that targeted environmental groups in the United States.
The Trump administration proposed to open more than two-thirds of the nation’s largest piece of public land to oil and gas drilling, removing wildlife protections for the Alaskan tract that have been in place for more than four decades.
Trump Has Dismantled More Monuments Than Any Protest: Trump has done the most damage to national monuments, dismantling or desecrating four federally protected land and water sites with significant cultural, archeological and natural resources.
These stories didn’t fit in a previous category, but I think it’s important to include… A new Trump administration proposal would let government-funded, single-sex homeless shelters keep transgender people out for religious reasons, and advocates worry that could subject them to more violence than they already face.
In the past, Secretary Carson has called transgender women “big, hairy men” intruding on women’s shelters and referred to “Biblical principles” to justify misgendering transgender women.
President Trump has taken aim at an Obama-era program intended to eliminate racial housing disparities in the suburbs, a move proponents of the policy see as an attempt to shore up his sagging support among white suburban voters by stoking racial division. The Trump administration is in discussions to end a decades-old practice of informally notifying Congress of major arms sales to foreign countries… Administration officials say they are tired of regular efforts by Capitol Hill to review arms exports to Saudi Arabia and other nations. The White House asked a Republican senator to block a bill that punishes China over its encroachments in Hong Kong. That senator, Kevin Cramer, obliged, blocking unanimous passage of the bill last week — even though he’s a co-sponsor of it.
2020.07.02 20:58 red-sfpplusFR - Breaking and fixing your shit.
After my divorce, I stayed in the marital home. It didn't really bother me, but at the same time it was a lot of space I didn't need. Last summer I started to look at Bachelor Pads in the downtown areas of Dallas, cause hey - I am a single 40 year old HVM. Might as well get out of suburbia. After I met Fitchick things went well, and I was less motivated to move. In Nov of last year I invited her and her kids to spend a week with me (she had been spending every day and night with me) to see how it would go. That week turned permanent. I justified it because there was no "financial cost" to me. I already had the 4 bedroom house with pool, in my name only, but I was also in love and foolish. So I broke a few red pill rules and overall best practices. Most of them were in regards to red flags, and un-necessary baggage. Taking a women in is one thing. Taking her and her 20, 18 and 13 year old boys? Idiotic. But I was in love. The main rule I broke is Iron Rule of Tomassi #4. It states: NEVER under any circumstance live with a woman you aren’t married to or are not planning to marry in within 6 months. In previous OYS posts I talked about how I had the cards stacked in my favor for what would eventually happen today. Due to being foolish and so deeply in love (and quite franking still am) I was willing to overlook these red flags, but at the same time I was at least smart enough to have an exit strategy. As the months grew on, I started to realize the complete mess I put myself in with her kids. I was becoming trapped. Not with her - that part was great, it was her fucking kids. With in 120 days of them moving in, I saw the writing on the wall. It was not going to last. I made up my mind back in June, it just took me 30 days to find my balls. We had talked about this before, and there several instances which led to several discussions about these plans, then this weekend had a trigger event. Before I communicated the plan with no commitment date. Today I applied a commitment date. Today I sat down with her and restructured our relationship as follows, because I am still a fool in love and this is better for me: I am putting the house on the market and plan to sell it in the next 60 days. I will be moving into more than likely "this" condo - (a condo she has actually seen before). I would like you to find an apartment for you and the boys very close to where I am so you are able to still come over as much as you want. The condo and associated costs will be "mine" your apartment and associated costs will be "yours and the boys". I am willing to continue a 1:1 dedicated, monogamous relationship and we can treat the condo as "ours" in every way other than legally. But I am not longer willing to support your children. So far? After the initial blow up and crying on her part, I have stood my ground. "I will change, the boys will change" are weapons which were used before which now have no impact on me. But also - she is a woman with no options other than to follow what I say. She could easily move out, dump me and whatever. At this point, I don't care but I don't think that will happen. Ego? Or just knowledge that she can easily be replaced? At 4pm the realtor will be here, and she has been looking at apartments literally within 2 miles of the condo I plan to move into. This time, the plan will be executed. Still, by a fool in love. Today I finally admitted my mistakes to myself, and that I am more important than anyone, its time to take my ball back and that she now has a choice. Go with my plan and have a relationship with me, one that over time would likely lead back to full time co-habitation, or not have me at all. But I am no longer willing to accept your "package" deal of "my kids and I." Secret is - she knows who the prize is. Stay tuned faggots.
2020.06.24 23:44 mlhradioUpdated list of counties and communities that have mandatory face covering requirements in Texas (as of June 24th)
Hi everyone, once again I updated the list of localities that have issued mandatory face covering requirements in Texas. Several more localities have implemented mandates, a few have extended their orders. The exact wording varies from one place to the next, as well as the timeframe involved; so check with your local community for specifics. Most recent update: June 27 1am CT. Note that time deadlines are often extended beyond the original dates, as the situation develops. List of communities that have made public announcements (in favor or against) since Abbott abdicated leadership on this issue:
And for all of the Covid Truthers out there spouting off nonsense like "look at the deaths, not the cases!" or "it's trending down" or "it's not where I live" or "masks aren't really effective anyway" or "it's just as bad as the flu" or "it infringes on my rights I just made up" -- please, no one want to hear it. Seriously. Just shut up and wear your damn mask already. How hard is that to do, you pansies?
